Future of Pellet Fan.
« on: November 04, 2019, 05:30:54 PM »

I as I’m sure many other’s, really look forward to this site. Having said that, it does sound selfish because I have no idea what goes into it, money included. My hope is that you and Kristin will continue to keep it rolling. I know you 2 just got back and I also know it’s probably none of my business but that’s never stopped me from overstepping. Sounds bad to even ask but man I don’t want this to go away.

If people don't continue to show up and post content about their cooks, I suspect there may be a good chance PF retires.  It will be shame as there is a nice little family around here.

I agree. Seems like PF has never really caught on like the old site.

I have to disagree, I think it has, it's just that very few post any cooks or for that matter anything.
Too many people just read what is on here and are (for whatever reason) reluctant to post? I don't get that part, you can learn an awful lot from reading but you can easily increase your knowledge even further by asking for suggestions, trying some recipes and then sharing results. Why just sit in the bleachers and watch when you can just as easy get in the game?

Precisely.  The posts on PF are generally detailed enough that I can duplicate the cook, as opposed to posts on other sites that are just a photograph and a statement that amounts to, "Look at what I cooked."

The majority of my posts here are direct questions asking for advice.  When I do, the responses flood in.

I'm moving to Culpeper, VA if PF closes.  Kristin and Bentley will probably have to get a restraining order against me.

IMO: One thing that has reduced the number of posts and possibly members, is the quality, reliability, performance and number of pellet pits on the market. The first pellet pit was revolutionary and had

several issues that have been worked out, mostly by people like us. For the most part, most new pits are plug and play resulting in almost a total reduction of posts related to problems, fixes and custom

features. The "mods" have become more finite as a result. About the only remaining topics could be issues related to long term use such as rust-out, or electronic/electrical.

There is a wealth of knowledge here that I am sure is more than able to do more than keep the boat afloat..New and different ideas could be to our advantage..

 triplebq: The answer is, "NO".

I think Bent gets more discouraged about PF than I do.  He was with PH from the start and what a lot of folks probably never realized, did nearly all the testing and admin and moderating -- he spent hours and hours a week.  He also organized the team that went out and competed and saw tremendous growth on that site.  A lot of that growth was due to things you all have mentioned -- newness of pellet pits, manufacturers wanting their pits to be tsted so they could get the exposure, folks coming to the site because they were just hearing about pellets, etc. But, as a result, I think Bentley became more attached to a bigger site with a lot more going on and maybe feels like he is doing something wrong on this site.

Well, that was over 10 years ago and the pellet industry has matured and things have changed.  So I never saw this site being like PH.  I figured we would have a lot more mature users and cooks -- which I think we do -- and fewer contributors and posts. There are some days that it is a bit discouraging when no one has anything to contribute, but I do appreciate that a lot of you have very good and useful posts and also questions.  Now, if I could just get a few more polls going, life would be great!!!

I also think we were both a little tired and going on vacation has been good to get us out of a rut.  I don't think PF is going anywhere for a while, at least not while we have folks like you all who seems to enjoy the site and want it to continue.
