What did you not like about the sides -- no flavor, too much salt, too much dressing, etc?

Those prices are way to rarefied for me.  How much was the brisket per pound?

Brisket was $25 per pound.

The sides didn't seem to have any flavor to me. Now I'm sure this is just my take on it. Out of the 3 I would say I liked the slaw the best followed by the beans.

My "sample" plate was $88.00 w/o tip!  ???

There are some things in life worth trying once, but for $88 for BBQ I'm not sure that I would have ordered as much as you.  I wonder how long he keeps up those long hours before saying he has enough money and packs it in.  Was he there?

What time did you get in line and how long did you have to wait?

I arrived around 6:00 AM. I was the 6th person in line. There was a couple that arrived at 5:00 who was the 1st in line. I was there for 5 hours. I can check this off my bucket list. The line was basically a tailgate party.

IMO: One nice thing is the biodegradable containers etc, rather than plastic. That is a good thing.

As for the looks, very nice. Taste, we all have our opinions. It should correlate to price... Price, way over the top, Franklin's BBQ or not.

Thanks for posting - most interesting!

Let me echo the thanks for posting this!  I not sure I could ever go there and be objective anymore, just have heard to much over the last 10 years to give the guy a fair shake.  The mind is tainted   I wounder how much of a day today roll he even has in the cooking anymore?

After Hurricane Harvey I spent 2 or 3 weeks in Austin, TX supporting the FEMA emergency office (I then left Austin to spend a couple more weeks in Houston for the same reason.  This was after Franklins had their fire and they were not open so I was not tempted to stand in their line.  While I was there I did get to several BBQ places, and my favorites were Blacks and Rudy's.  Blacks is a second location of the famous place in Lockhart, TX.  Rudy's is a chain that had remarkably consistent BBQ at the several locations I tried while driving around the Austin Houston areas.

Writing this, I with I could go back to both of these places...

Moist and tasty?  Or did all the flavor come from the sandwich condiments?

Enjoyed the Salt Lick.  The item I enjoyed most was their smoked turkey sandwich.  Delicious!...smoked turkey sandwich was the only thing I ordered.

Fun thread, thanks for posting.   Never done Franklins, I get to Dallas once every three years or so.  Given the airfare, hotel, work xxxx I have to deal with ... well the cost of BBQ is the last thing on my mind.  $88 for one person is very high, but once a year, once every three years, sounds fun to me.

The price isn't as off putting as having to be in line at 6 am for the priviledge of a 5 hour wait!  At this point in life, I am not sure I can think of a food worth waiting that long for.  Maybe I should start a thread and see if folks can give me ideas!
