Grill Reviews
« on: March 09, 2020, 09:02:35 AM »

I have not posted in quote some time but after seeing Glitchy's issues with the Weber Smokefire I decided to research what all had transpired with the grill since news of it arrived.  It seemed that there were all sorts of Youtube "influencers" that were convinced that it could be the greatest pellet grill ever.  In addition, the self proclaimed bbq whisperer claimed that it could sear a steak on it because as soon as the lid opened he could feel the heat on his belly.

I am mainly writing this to show my appreciation for Bentley's (and Larry in the past on the other site) grill reviews.  I always appreciated the  benchmarks and data points provided so that I could make an informed decision.  The reviews never came across as influenced by any sort of relationship with the manufacturer other than if a manufacturer was confident in their product then they would submit the cooker for review.  I am truly grateful that I was able to make my decision to purchase my cooker based on the review by Bentley as well as other comments made by users that owned the grill in that subgroup (grill is 8 years old with no significant issues and thousands of great cooks).

I too miss these reviews, Bentley does an awesome job at them and Larry did as well.

As for the SmokeFire, I think they will get the issues worked out. It's not quite everything they promised, but it really is a pretty amazing pellet grill and a decent pellet smoker. They already have a hopper fix out.

I agree with these assessments.  We've hashed it over on other threads...but still, I wish there were a way for the Performance Evaluations to continue.

I thoroughly enjoyed the evaluations - my kind of stuff!   There is lot more than the actual testing.. What to evaluate, procurement, the actual tests (can't do it with one cook) includes documenting, photo

taking etc, the write-up and finally the return or disposal of the unit.. In themselves all time consuming and to a point, costly.. It' a BIG job! THANK YOU BENT.

Those PH reviews cost me about $7000 in grills. ;)

Weber sure has some nice looking grills. Local store started carrying them. If I didn't already have a couple....

Maybe you haven't been around for a while to read about the issues folks on here have had with them.  I sure thought they looked nice in pics and videos too, but appears to have some engineering challenges.
