What’s a Good Dipping Bread?
« on: June 19, 2020, 10:09:10 PM »

I have a rather good recipe of olive oil, herbs and lemon juice for dipping bread.  But I can’t find the proper bread variety to compliment it.  Can you recommend something that I can order from the average good bakery?  It won’t help me if you say something like, “We love the Italian bread from Enoteca Vespaio in Austin.”

What’s your favorite bread variety for dipping?

I like Ciabatta.  But I also like a good crusty "European-Style" hard dinner roll!

Breads made with wild yeast and whole grains will have the best flavors.  Most better grocery stores should have artisan breads.

On one of my smokers facebook groups someone posted a recipe for smoked cheesy bacon garlic bread that would be good at dipping.

Can’t go wrong with a fresh crusty baguette. I also really like sourdough as well, but it might over power some dips.

I have been making the common no knead Dutch oven bread a lot the last few months, and I think it is a very good bread for dipping in oil and balsamic, nice crusty exterior and chewy on the inside.    It is so easy to make and the best part is from mixing the dough to out of the oven in less than 3hrs.    I just made a loaf today and added herbs from the garden to it.

Osborn, please post your recipe and process in the how to section.  I think you have an interesting bread that is easy to make which would be something I would give a try.

We chose the standby Focaccia.  Two thick T-bones, dipped Focaccia, a great salad, twice baked potatoes, asparagus & Sangiovese Red.  It was a mellow evening, just the two of us.  Thanks for the help.
