Any Plumbing experts out there ?
« on: July 18, 2020, 01:11:42 PM »

Thought I'd ask here before creating an account on a plumbing forum that I most likely will never use again, just to ask a question.

I have a refrigerator outside that only gets user when I have guests over (which may not be for some tome now).
Rest of time it is turned off, other than right now, as fridge in house croaked and new one won't be here until next week.

I would like to be able to use the ice maker in the fridge.
So to the question...

Anyone know what correct parts I need to connect the 1/4" ice maker line at back of fridge to the outdoor faucet?

I've googled, but didn't come up with anything useful.
Maybe just didn't know right thing to google, not sure.

TIA

Well son of a biscuit, that looks like that might be the ticket. I never found that in my searching.
The confusing part was all the different threads, NTP, NPS, GHT, etc.
Still haven't found what thread the ice maker line is.
Bought a new line for indoor fridge and package doesn't say.
Still googling for that thread.

Thanks for the help, that gets me closer.
EDIT: I ordered it, will see if old ice maker line I have fits it.

I owe you one.

I would stay away from that one from Amazon. It contains lead that you don't want used for potable water.
One like this is lead free and has a compression fitting end on it that would be easy to connect.

Wow, that looks perfect. Thanks
Never thought about the potable water part.

Best thing to do is to go to Home Depot or Lowes.  They have the proper connectors there.  They usually have a qualified advisor there.   :2cents:

The hardware stores will have ice maker kits and filters.   Our tap water sucks, so a filter is a must.

Maybe at your Lowes or HD, but I will take the advice here over 90% of the people at either of those stores!

I would make ice the old school way. In cube trays.
Your new fridge will be there soon.

It will be useful when we are outdoors playing CornHole game.
Besides, on poker night, the on-door ice maker we have now was insufficient to get through the night.
A backup plan is good.
I haven't seen, let alone had an ice cube tray in years. Haha

If a filter is needed it would be easy to add an inline filter. The refrigerator may have one built in. Mine does.

It is a smaller fridge and does need an inline filter.

When you pick up the part for the water line, just tell them what your doing and they should be able to fix you up with every thing you need. Most Ace Hardware stores have very knowledgeable employees.

you certainly do not want any plumbing advice from me as my wife forbids me to do any.  Why you might ask?  It is because I twisted a faucet completely from the pipe.  Need I say more'
