One more Parmesan Cheesecake
« on: August 13, 2020, 09:31:08 AM »

Parmesan cheese cake was a favorite of Ben Franklin.  I have now put on the plate to make, so just wondering has anyone else made one?

I have never heard of it, I may have to look it up. The GF loves cheesecake. I will make her a simple one now and then, just plain no flavors or toppings usually.

I will be interested in the recipe. It sounds like it should be a more savory cheesecake than sweet, but will be interested to see.

I used the old interweb google thing and there looks to be several recipes out there, like most things. I would be interested in seeing what yours is when you do it.

I am reading the cookbooks from the City Tavern in Philadelphia, which claims to be one of the oldest restaurants in America.  Anyway i have been enjoying some the recipes and this one is credited to Ben Franklin.  I did not realize how creative the recipes were and how many different spices were used such as curry in their food.

Here is a picture I took about 4 years ago when I was doing some site seeing in Philly.  Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to go into the Tavern.

Is it more like a quiche or a dessert cheese cake?

We ate there on New Years Day, probably about 8 years ago. My kids were in 6th and 9th grade. We spent New Years Eve in Times Square and were driving to Washington DC that night. We were all sore and moving slow from a lot of walking and hours on end of standing in NYC. Stopping in Philadelphia was more of an after thought than something we planned. We took our time getting around and didn't get to Philly till late afternoon. We were able to see the Liberty Bell and Independance Hall. By then everyone was starving and we were looking for a place to eat. Someone told us about the City Tavern and it looked interesting. I was glad we went, it was an excellent meal and one of the highlights of our trip. I had pork chops and sauerkraut, which was the traditional New Years Day special. I don't know if it was because I was tired and hungry or because of the way it was cooked, but it was probably one of the best pork chops I can remember eating. My only regret was that I did not realize the Mummers Parade was that day. We got in town just as it ended and everyone was headed back to their cars. Somewhere I have a cookbook from there, but it is probably still packed in a box somewhere!

Well I made the Parmesan cheesecake and it was a big hit.  Made a special dinner for our Grandson, Aidan. It was Maryland style crab cake made with fresh Maryland lump crabmeat served with steak fries and broccoli. For desert we had one of Benjamin Franklin's favorite a Parmesan cheesecake. Although I had never made it before highly recommend it. There was only one piece left and that went home with our Grandson.
