Members cook Pmillen's Smoke-Baked Salisbury Steak recipe.
« on: August 22, 2020, 09:38:14 AM »

Did this the other night. Used the mealoaf that the GF likes, meat, stovetop stuffing, 2 eggs, onions and added in some salt, pepper and garlic.
Browned it on the griddle, then added 1 can mushroom soup with the 3/4c water. decided it should have more so when with the same 3/4C water and cream of chicken. The GF doesn't like mushrooms, I asked her why, did she not like the flavor or texture, no it was because it is a fungus. Did this in the little DC at 180° for about an hour. Then bumped temps to 350° to finish once she got there. Probably another 15 o 20 minutes. I used a 1/2 steam pan so mine were probably thicker than the same in a 9x13. I peeled and pressure cooked some potatoes and she then mashed them the way she likes. I tell you what cooking is way easier if you cook for just yourself and not someone that is very picky.

It went over well, she liked it, I didn't taste much smoke but she said she could. I think maybe it was that she knew it was done in the smoker so she could taste the smoke. We took some of the leftover stuff to her Mother and she liked it also. So it is something I can now add in to things I can make for dinner list. It is slowly growing.

We were at  local store and I saw walking in they had 85/15 on sale. Well they were out of it, I bought the 80/20 stuff and next time may look to try the leaner 90/10 or there abouts. This wasn't to greasy but as you see there was a fair amount of fat render out.

No plating pics. I am a simple guy so it usually doesn't look pic worthy. Plus a lot of times it is on the good Sams club disposable china.

Give some thought to doubling the gravy recipe.  There wasn't much for the potatoes the last two times I made it.

Yes after one can I decided to add the second.

My take will be jalapenos instead of green peppers (not by choice), no browning, and 90 minutes of wood smoke @ 200° before going in oven.  Blend of Chuck & Rib roast for GB, about 70/30.

It's gonna be a late dinner, but when it is this kind of food, no problem!

I split this off so we would not be to much of a drain on the original recipe.  Hopefully Paul & Dave are OK with it and dont send Seal team 27 after me!

I am just getting to hungry...You can certainly smell the smoke on the meat after about 75 minutes in the Pro.  In the oven now!

I can see how smoking the meat would be an improvement.  That's going to be a change I implement.

I have no idea if you will be able to taste it or not.  I can't wait to eat it.  I am going to mash the potatoes right now and if the meat is anywhere near 150° I am all in!

I top it with a little smoked paprika before putting on the smoker for a little extra color and flavor but go light on it.

This is some delicious Dinner food!  Rib sticking, only mistake tonight was going back for seconds, just to much! To be completely honest, I might add a few more seasonings...but that is just me and beef!

You'd be making Momma happy if she were here to read this.

I'll be interested in what you add.

I am good, I didn't know where to post mine. It is a great recipe/idea. Something that is easily tailored to your tastes, or the tastes of the people you need to cook for, which is almost not always my taste in my situation.

It would be very simple, a little seasoning salt and some Worcestershire sauce.

I like cream of mushroom soup, and it certainly would be easy to use in this instance, but I think I would enjoy making my own brown gravy with mushroom (and maybe some caramelized onions) for this dish.

The caramelized onions sounds like a great idea with the brown gravy
