Oktoberfest
« on: September 21, 2020, 01:10:07 PM »

Prost!

We have a pretty solid Oktoberfest in Mt. Angel Oregon.   They go all out, but we haven't been for two years.  So we did it ourselves.   3 families, a modest gathering, but really great food (sausage precooked and smoked for about 90 mins to get up to temp.)  Cucumber salad was from the garden.   I pickled my own red onions, rest is pretty much store bought prep for a party stuff.  It turned out to be a great day.

Did you drink Oktoberfest beer?  It is my favorite style.  I stock up in August and drink it thru the Fall.  My buddy has an Oktoberfest in late October the last 3 or 4 years....big tent with food on tables, horseshoe tournament, polkas on the outdoor speakers, etc.  Great time of year.  Looks like you had fun.

Did you drink Oktoberfest beer?
Great question  ;D  We had 7 different German beers represented.  And while I do enjoy Oktoberfest (and browns and reds in general) ... the older I get, the more we pare it down to Pilsners (Czech) and Kolsch ... aka their version of light domestic beer.       There was one doppelbock that we decided to split between 6 people for tasting.

Doesn't sound quite as exciting, but easier to manage as our festivities went from 3:00 to 11:00.
