I think there are a lot of reasons. I read an article last week that said that somewhere between 20 and 25% of medical professional are not taking the vaccine for a variety of reasons -- some are concerned it was "rushed" without enough testing, some are concerned that we don't know long range consequences. I have a friend who is assisting in transporting elderly folks for vaccines and she says she has talked many into it just because they had no one to go with them and were intimidated by the process or scared in might kill them by the time they got home and they would be on their own dying, etc. So she walks them through the process, stays with them, spends time with them after the appt until they feel that they are fine. Some in minority community are simply skeptical of any program administered by gov't based on bad history of their communities being used as guinea pigs. I have one friend who is an anti-vacc'er and so she is never getting. And for some it is a political statement (that is the one I just don't get).
Almost all of the medical professionals I have spoken to say they are getting or have had the vaccine. I think that, as you suggested, that some are unwilling because Trump was involved in getting it done at "warp speed". To me that is not rational thinking. Could they really believe that both Trump and the Pharma companies are out to harm them? All that Warp Speed proved is that the usual long time in completing a new vaccine has been due to bureaucracy rather than necessity. But the fact that the pharma group cooperated together in some instances is encouraging. I respect everyone's right to choose, but that does not mean that misinformed people are correct in their decision. Caution is a good thing except when it harms you because you were not properly informed. These new vaccines that do not use the virus are new miracle of science that will benefit mankind in many ways.
Let me say unequivocally, that Vaccines are the greatest advance in medicine since the dark ages. Antibiotics come in second. Vaccines wiped out Measles, Polio, Mumps, and Smallpox until recent movements to discredit them has turned them loose in society again. Those young girls who recently did not get Measles vaccine, will be at risk when they get to child bearing age. If they then get measles while pregnant, we will be seeing a dramatic return of miscarriages and infants born with congenital heart defects. Also, children mortality from measles encephalitis, or pneumonia will also reappear. New cases of polio are now reported in the last few years. It was wiped out 15 years ago (by efforts of Rotary International). I'm not sure about Mumps incidence recently but many males who get mumps after puberty are subject to being left sterile or near sterile for life after. Pneumovax has prevented deadly pneumonia in those who have taken it for many years now.
I think Smallpox is still well suppressed since was actually gone due to worldwide immunization. But who knows what is possible with the current hysteria over vaccines.
Bottom line: the current vaccine has been shown in millions of doses now to be safe and with fewer side effects than many previous vaccines.
While not taking it is everyone's right, it does not mean they are wise in refusing it. And it puts all of us at some increased risk by allowing the virus to exist between outbreaks. That is why giving it to children will eventually be a good idea (if proving it is safe to do). They are not at significant risk, TRUE, but their parents, grandparents and those with chronic illness are at significant risk. That nut will take some time to crack IMO. In the meantime, some states are now offering vaccine to all adults, and many more will follow. By mid-April we will be awash in vaccines. My advice: You figure it out. PS. Dramatic reduction in all forms of the disease in my area. Some areas now reported as "low risk".
Thank you ex President Trump for Warp Speed. And you did order enough vaccines, they were delayed only by logistics and States inefficient bureaucracies. Thank you President Biden for asking the states to lower the age restrictions early.
