An old dog is trying to learn a new trick!
« on: January 18, 2020, 12:01:59 PM »

I have been baking since I was about 8 -- am now nearly 63 so a fair number of years.  I was watching the Pioneer Woman a few days back and realized I had never attempted scones.  So, it is a very nasty day outside and I decided I would give it a try. Many different types and flavors to choose from, but I have decided to go basic to see how this goes.  Made the dough, rolled out, cut and onto a sheet pan. Now in the oven cooking. Not the prettiest, but if they taste half way good, I will get more practice in the future.

They turned out well. I made them a bit too big, but that is what practice is about. I like the recipe and I can see how easy it would be to add to it or put glazes. I just did the traditional English way -- strawberry jam and had to use whipped cream because no double cream in the house!!! OK, I am ready for a tea party!

They were good.  Much better then the ones served on the cruise...Just slightly sweet so the clotted cream and jam will not overpower them!

LMK when you are making the bacon, jalapeno, and cheddar ones with pepper jelly on top. ;D  I would be willing to sample if it helps you practice to perfect your recipe.

Made this way, maybe with reduced sugar and sans the jelly, it would be a great compliment with chili or stew!
