Anybody else have a griddle? Man I LOVE this thing.
-
My son does and he loves it. What all do you do with yours? Educate me!
-
I bought the 36" about a month ago.
So far have done steaks, smash burgers, hash browns, bacon, eggs, (scrambled and over easy), potato pancakes.
I agree it works great and clean up is real easy. I bought some griddle screens and use those backed with a sponge to clean it. Non stick surface after seasoning.
The one I received had a larger weld by the grease drain and all has gone into the drip tray. Seems to have solved the issue of grease missing it.
Looking forward to making steak burritos. Just having trouble finding skirt steak where I live.
-
I've had a 36" for 3 years, I really like doing stir frys, I always have way more than my wok can handle, I like leftovers. My wife likes corned beef hash on it, I can spread it out and get it really crispy
-
How portable are these things? Looks like they break down but I can't tell for sure.
-
I have had the 36" model for about 3 or 4 years and love it. I do large breakfast cooks, burgers, Philly cheese steaks sammys, boneless chicken breast, omelettes and more.

Never tried to take mine any where but the legs do fold in.

They do fold up. Blackstone even makes a carrying case for it.
But it is heavy.
-
The blackstone basically allows you to have a 36" x 22" cast iron (really steel) skillet that is easy to warm up, allows you to cook outside so you don't smoke up your kitchen, and is fun to clean. I'm eating a lot more seafood because of this and can really blacken fish now.
This weekend the plan is to smoke salmon on the mak with fried rice from the griddle. It's really a powerful weapon in the cooking arsenal.
-
How does this compare to the Camp Chef gas griddle?
-
Hmm. Must resist urge to buy new toy....

I know the feeling...I have been eyeing up the Camp Chef griddle/grill for the last week or so. Glad I am out of town and winter is coming up or I would have pulled the trigger on buying one of these. I think my Weber will be going on Craigslist in the spring.
-
I bought one this past spring and really like it. My summer unexpectedly got very busy so I have not had the opportunity to use it as much as I would like. So far, have used it mainly for breakfasts, hash browns and omelettes. Did make burgers on it once and the family liked the sear on them.
-
I have the one that is split between a griddle and grill. It is great for tailgating! comes with a carry case for the base and a case griddle and grill. Pretty slick unit.
-
I bought the 17 inch portable.. It's awesome!!!! Great companion to my pellet grill. You can get one for around $75
-
Who doesn't love fajita's on a flat top? We use ours quite a bit, and it's see's Sunday breakfast brunch duty weekly.

I have a camp chef 3 burner with the steel 3 burner griddle & also have a cast iron 2 burner griddle, I have owned it for about 8 yrs & maybe used it 4 times. It cooks great but I never think of setting it up & using it. If I had an outdoor kitchen I would incorporate it & leave it set up.

I have two of these for my gas grill: https://www.grillgrate.com/the-griddle/
I don't have the space for a full separate griddle :(

I think I have that too. How do they work? Do you have pics of cooking on them? How frequently do you use them? How is managing the grease handled? Sorry for all the questions. Before I pull them out and start to use them, it would be nice to know more about their actual use.
-
No grease trap on these but wouldn’t be hard to soak up with paper towel if cooking greasy foods.
-
I love my Blackstones! I have a 36 and 17". The 17" sits on a small 24x24" stainless table I bought from Costco. Sits right next to my MAK, and makes for the perfect sear station.

They're great, I put them on my gas grill. I don't use them very often but they're great for smash burgers. Grease is easy, it falls off of the griddle and burns up in the grill.

Do you place it on top of GrillGrates or do you place them on top of the standard grill grates on the gas grill?
-
On top of the standard grates.
I don't use grillgrates on my new gasser, just not necessary.
-
Funny...I just got a text from my brother about 30 minutes ago. He just bought a 17in blackstone griddle. :rotf:
-
You guys really peaked my interest with the smaller Blackstones. I use a Expedition Griddle I picked up from Costco but the smaller Blackstones are appealing for sure. I see HSN at times has a Blackstone 22 inch made especially for them but I guess any parts would be special and hard to get. i.e. grease drip pan mainly. Here's my Burger and Dog Set up...

I have 2 of the 17" griddles, have only used one so far made, chicken strips, bacon, eggs, pancakes, burgers. I really like it. and it isn't that heavy to carry around.

Nice setup. You are a great fabricator.
-
Agree, craftsman like you a a rare find anymore
-
Groupon has the Blackstone 28" on sale for $148. Sale ends in 2 days.
-
I love smash burgers and have been using a small griddleQ on my gasser for a few years. It’s to small and have been eyeing either the Blackstone or Camp Chef flattops.
One of them is my next purchase but it will involve a rework of my current cook area/setup
This thread is helpful so thx

What is the issue with the grease drip on the Blackstones?
-
A bad design has grease flow backwards from the drip area down the leg. Thankfully the issue was solved by a vendor.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=99Rw6QWYsKE&index=13&list=LLymVj1G-VhHKQ3o_6xgFabw
FYI Blackstone says they are changing the model in 2018 to place the grease trap at the back like on the 22" model. Not sure if I like that.

I just ordered two of those extenders, thanks for posting that drives me nuts when grease runs off and onto the concrete.
I agree that putting the trap at the rear is a step back, I use commercial Dexter spatula's on mine and drag the tips over the trap edge to clean them while cooking having it at the rear is a terrible idea on a flat top that size.
-
Bought the 28" model when Wally world was blowing them out at $99 and free shipping. It's one of the best purchases I've made in awhile.
-
I think I am going to get the Camp Chef. It comes pre-seasoned and has the grill grates with it too. And, haven't read about any grease issues. Will probably wait until the Spring.

Agree with you on the Camp Chef, it seems to me that it’s a step up but also more $. No grease issues, spark on each burner. Not as mobile as only 2 weeks on the cart, but overall I think a little better quality. Anyways, just my humble option. Could not find any on CL. You guys did get me to pull out my expedition 3 burner with 24 inch griddle and set it up on patio. Will try it out to make sure if I like it for uses other than transporting it for remote burger cookouts. Last night I did smoke some prime ribs up to 110 IT and then gave them a good Sear on the griddle to finish. So we’ll see, watching for a super clearance sale or something.

Change of Mind! Had decided as stated in previous post to go with Campchef. BUT...
the Blackstone 22 came on Special again for $139, free freight and at 15% discount for signing up. So I ordered. If you've been on the fence, act quickly. Now I can recapture some space on the patio and store my portable back in the shed.
BTW, it was just in time for my BD.

Those are perfectly seared steaks, little to no char, just Maillard reaction browning. Great work.

Tractor Supply web site has the Blackstone at $300, but they have the Camp Chef griddle only at $180.
-
I saw it in there add, must be only in stores, but it was the Blackstone 36" $120 off.
-
Website for Phoenix area has the Blackstone 36 in. Griddle Cooking Station for $180.
-
I changed my "location" and assigned a new Favorite Store. Indeed, the 36" Blackstone griddle is $180 in Phoenix. But it's $300 in Nebraska and Iowa. It's localized pricing on the web site.
-
Got my 22 in, stored my CC Expedition, and here it is getting griddle seasoned.
Will cook some bacon later today.

Box was delivered today. Too bad I am about 1000 miles away from home for another few weeks. My cousin is watching my house while I am gone. He put it in the garage for me. Hopefully, the weather is decent when I get home so I can put it together and try it out with some bacon and cheesesteaks.
