We made this for dinner last night. Really good, thanks Pmillen for the recipe. Definitely do it again.
We used 1 can of cream of chicken and 1 can of cream of mushroom. I did make the steaks too thick but they were really good.

I agree, this is a great recipe to work with and it is pretty simple and easy. I  like that part. I see it coming back around again next week.

I like cream of mushroom soup, and it certainly would be easy to use in this instance, but I think I would enjoy making my own brown gravy with mushroom (and maybe some caramelized onions) for this dish.

Agreed.  That's the way my school cafeterias served it (K-8, high school & even college).  Although I think that the onions were just baked with the meat and not caramelized.
