I believe that is a hickory tree, we have them and the shaggy bark ones around where I live. Bitternut if i remember. I used to go raid the neighbors wood pile for smoking wood when I was younger, he would usually tell me when he cut up some hickory, cherry and maple.

That definitely looks like hickory.  One of the very best woods to burn in a fireplace.
