Early plans AR 2019
« on: October 18, 2018, 05:26:11 PM »

Yes I always plan ahead.
Just saying that I am planning to attend the American Royal in the fall of 2019.
I don't know the dates as yet, but as soon as I do, I can go ahead and start with motel planning.
I plan to drive out leaving Thursday and spend Friday, Saturday and most of Sunday at the event.
At this time my thoughts are that I'll be bringing my Advantage and anything else that anybody else would like me to bring.

If no one else from the forum comes - well then I'll just entertain myself, cruising around from team to team. They'll be a lot of folk to track down.
Fast Eddy, Stuart from Cookshack, Scottie Johnson from CancerSucks.com.  etc. etc.

So I told the little lady that she could plan on me attending. She said "Can I come along?"

I said "NO".

I already discussed this with ZCZ. He said he was coming.
So that's two for sure.

Since we will only be cooking the Open, we will probably leave on Thursday, which usually puts us in late Friday afternoon.  Sure would be neat to see if we could get some folks within a 200-300 mile radius to commit to coming in Saturday for some Pellet Fan Testing!

I'm getting pumped just thinking about all the good times we've had in the past years.
I've also got a canopy that I can bring. And a table.
We need to get a banner. I can pay for or help pay for if anybody's got any ideas.

Yes indeed, count me in.  Will cook ribs if asked but fine with me if someone else wants to give it a shot.  If I do ribs I need Trooper to make my turn-in box.
My neighbor will be coming with me as he wants to see what a BBQ contest looks like.  He is definitely coming to the right place.

Trooper - you should take a shot at chicken.  Your chicken looked pretty good at the Hog & Steer we did together back in 2016.

The chicken usually looks good, but sometimes it comes out tasting like chicken soup.  ???
Oh well.  BRING IT ON!!

The great thing about this is - A complete amateur backyard cook, like myself or ZCZ, gets a chance to put his finished product out there with some of the best BBQ'ers in the world. You find yourself out there in a parking lot with a great bunch of comrades and cooking with guys you've just met. Yup, and in somewhat shabby elements -against teams of cooks that have cooked together for years in huge mobile kitchens. And the team of pellet cooks are COMPLETELY supportive how however the turn-in numbers happen to fall. Hey, my chicken finished 50th out of 59 teams in the blazing heat of Jeffersonville, IN.
And what do I hear? Let's do it again, Trooper!

All I can say is I'm glad I entered the "arena" and participated. More on the "arena" down the road.

No need for bribes, and definitely no need for the private stock. I like the plain old original captain. I had days scheduled off this year for it before it got cancelled. Would more than likely be able to do it next year. I am starting a new gig this Wednesday, so it may be slightly more difficult than in the past. Should be able to make it work though.
