I would not survive a SF Bay area HOA. Vegans complain about any BBQ meat smell, non pork or beef eaters complain as well. I respect religious beliefs, but it creates more conflict than I could deal with. Condos are the worst. Single family home HOA's have so many ridiculous  restrictions, I can't even list them. One that cracks me up is not leaving your garage door open. Wouldn't work for me, I'm a garage guy.

Our  CC&R's have the garage clause.  I'm a garage guy too but only my next door neighbors know my garage is open.  The design criteria for our neighborhood was that no garage doors face the street so it's either on the side or around back.  My next door neighbors are cool and we invite them frequently for BBQ.

I have no sympathy for folks that blow stop signs and speed like that through neighborhoods. The problem had to be pretty bad for an HOA to take that kind of action.

3 cars routinely run the red light at the major intersection down the street from me. You can't even go after 2 cars without taking a risk. We count them every time we are stopped there.

My sons used to have trouble with cars blowing through cross walks while they were walking to school.

If the local police will not patrol the private property then it is up to the residents. Good for you and I hope it makes your neighborhood safer.
