What a Day! Today is one of those days that has a lot of emotional peaks and valleys. A while back I ordered two auger motors from Amazon. When they arrived, both of the fans had blades broken off. When I contacted them they said they would send two new ones and no need to return the old ones. I thought they would just send new fans, but today there were two new motors that came in the mail. This time only one fan blade was broken! A little Gorilla Glue and I should be able to make do. I can’t wait long enough for them to ship another one, I've got a lot of grilling to do!!
This morning I was bagging potatoes for our community food pantry. When I went to eat lunch I noticed my wedding ring had fallen off somewhere along the way. I got ahold of the truck driver who brought the potatoes and it was not in the potato bin. I couldn’t find it in the area I was working. After retracing my steps, my best guess is that it is in a bag of potatoes that someone took home. I hope it turns up. Ironically my 26th anniversary is this weekend! When I told my wife what had happened she responded by saying: “We’re still married.†For which I am grateful!
Hosted a veteran’s banquet this evening for those who served and those who appreciate what veterans have done for us. It was a great dinner, even if I couldn’t smoke anything. We served ham, scalloped potatoes, and a lot of side dishes. The speaker was a friend of mine who talked about his experiences in Vietnam. He has told me bits and pieces of his experiences through the years, but tonight he put it into a perspective that made me see things in a different light.
I don’t know if there is any way to thank people enough for what they were called to do. It was a thankless job and they responded with courage. I was truly humbled by his story of service, the struggles he faced, and the way he has been able to come to terms with life and embrace it. I grew up in an era when there was not even a registration for the draft, they were not actively recruiting. I cannot comprehend what young kids were (and still are) asked to do in the name of their country. All I can say is “Thank you†to all our vets and those who actively serve. I am grateful for your commitment and sacrifice. Even though we live in a world of uncertainty where bad stuff happens each day, I am proud of our country and those who protect and defend it. May God bless you for making a difference.
