Kristin, I think appreciation of one's service has changed over the years.  The first time anyone ever thanked me for my service was at a VA hospital in 2010.  I was there for entry into the VA health care system, 41 years after my discharge.  The nurse taking my vitals thanked me and I was sort of stunned.  The other day I was in a grocery store parking lot and I heard this woman yell across the lot, "Thank you for your service!" to a soldier leaving the store in fatigues.  I can tell you that would never have happened in the Viet Nam era.  It appears that things have changed for the better in that regard.

I know Memorial Day is to honor the fallen who have served, but I also like to remember all who have served.  If you want to add your name, please do so.
