Hard boiled eggs

I was reading about Bentley’s scotch eggs so I thought I would share a tip.  I’ve struggled for years with peeling  hard boiled eggs and have tried all kinds of tricks but this technique is fantastic, eggs peel super easy every time and are tender not rubbery.  Steam for 12 minutes, get the water boiling then put the eggs on and start timing.  The yolks will be a tiny bit underdone on some, so go 13 minutes if that’s an issue. Run cold water over them to cool and crack the shells in several places while they cool .

Another thing that helps peeling, make sure the eggs aren't fresh.   At least 5 days old.

+1 one on this tip. Works great!

Plus if you have a number to peel, try putting them in a container with a tight fitting lid. Fill half way up with water, put the lid on and give it a good shake. I've had good luck doing this. Some are completely peeled and the rest are easy to finish.

That's what I like about this site. Not only is it informative but it is also a-peeling!

The easiest peel eggs I have found are when using the instant pot on manual for 5 minutes and then manual steam release and putting them in ice water to stop the cooking. If you don't have an instant pot, if you puncture an egg with a needle it typically makes the egg pull away from the shell and makes them easier to peel also.

I think there are many ways to get an easy to peel hard-boiled egg.  What works for us is to bring the water to a boil then gently put the eggs in the pot, turn the heat down and cook for about 15 minutes.  Take the eggs out and refrigerate overnight (or 8 hours).  Roll the eggs on the counter and start peeling at the large end of the egg-the shell should come off easily with no tears or gouges in the egg itself.

I agree that older eggs work better than fresh eggs.

I agree that older eggs work better than fresh eggs.

I started steaming my eggs about 6 months ago using  a rice/steamer that was on the shelf and not getting used.
I have not gone back to any other way of preparing shelled eggs. Works every time.

best way ive found is to put in mason jar and shake a bit.. shell peels off really easy

I put my eggs in cold tap water, then on the stove. Never really time them either.  When done I put them in ice water to cool. Rarely have a issue peeling them.

I think this may be the best idea.  Cheap enough and you never have to peel eggs.  What do you think? Of course if you need more than six at a time, you can buy a double order of Egglettes.  Just saw this ad on TV.

Seen that commercial.  But I'm leary of anything that's " but act now, and we'll double your order. Just pay separate shipping and handling".

I use an Egg Genie, holds 7 eggs, uses about 2 ounces of water and steams the eggs. Peel great every time. The best part is i dont time anything, add the water, place the eggs, plug it in and walk away, about 15 minutes later it buzzes and I unplug it. I used to put them in ice water but lately I just leave them in the cooker for a while until cool enough to handle and honestly havent noticed a difference between the 2 methods.
When and if this one dies I will be ordering another one immediately.
