Gifted grass fed beef

Good friend of over 20 years comes over last week with 50 lbs of vacuum sealed rib eye, sirloin, cubed, round, ribs, and hamburger.  I told him I couldn't take it.  He said his garage freezer is completely full.   I did accept.   8) Here's the first go:

I used to reverse sear with an hour on the Traeger and then over to the gasser with grill grates.  Now I'm finishing with a pan fry in brown butter. 

One medium rare rib eye, two medium well sirloins.

Only critique is they were a little thin, but very tasty.

Hard to ask the question without possibly influencing the answer, but no other way to get the info.  Did you taste any hint of a metallic flavor in the beef?

It's because of the fat.  Grass fed has yellowish fat and a different taste than grain fed.  My dad had a feedlot when I was a kid and the calves were raised on grass then finished on a mix of cotton seed hulls and milo for three months or so prior to becoming goodness on a pit.

My wife is highly sensitive to cilantro.  Tastes soapy and metallic to her (she doesn't even like the smell).   I didn't notice metallic flavor with the rib eye last night.  I'll keep it in mind, I've got plenty more of this beef to go.

I hate cilantro...I don't get either of the tastes she does but...I do not known what their real insect name is, we call them stink bugs and they seem to always be on the soy beans...smash one of those in you finger, and smell, then rub some cilantro between your fingers of the other hand and smell them and they will smell the same!

And I love cilantro.  Especially with chicken.  I hope the stink bug comparison doesn't ruin it for me.  They do reek!

Any gifted beef you get tastes wonderful.  Kinda like free beer.  Doesn't matter if it's the dregs of the batch if it's free.

Not sure we have ever had grass fed beef, if we have we never noticed metallic flavor.
We have tasted it in buffalo meat though, not a fan of it, there is a local ranch here and have tried it a few times.
Cilantro is a favorite around here though, the freshest smelling herb ever. Like a fresh sliced cucumber, yep.
I also like the smell of freshly cut grass so it could be a character flaw?

Yeah, ready for slaughter in have the time, a fraction of the cost and personally, so much better then a grass fed piece of beef!

Being a farm kid, I get angered by bloggers who never farmed who feel they know better ways to do everything farming related.

Just FYI I was only defining the product that was given to me.  Not advocating grass fed or organic or any such thing.  As I recall the best beef I've ever had was Nebraska corn fed.    My fathers side had Nebraska dairy farmers.    I frankly am angered by neither corn nor grass, just stating the product.

PS Atlantic Salmon angers me to no end as I grew up with fresh Pacific salmon and am friends with commercial fishermen on the west coast.
