Do You Have a Dedicated Shop Vac For Your Pellet Grill
« on: February 18, 2018, 03:01:39 PM »

I like using my shop vac for cleaning out my pit, however, it does make it kinda nasty to use on my vehicles now.   So I solved the problem by getting a new vac for my family's autos and my old vac will be dedicated to the smoker.  Just wondering how many of you have done the same.

Stinger 2.5 Gal.  Just under $30.  Use it probably twice a month.  Scrape, vac, done.    And you're correct, there is no other use for this vac, it's pretty nasty at this point.

I have an ash vac that I bought about 15 years ago to vacuum out my pellet stove in the house. It was expensive back then but it doesn't emit any ash clouds in the house that some shop vac's have done in the past. It does not get used for anything else.

I have a bucket head as well.  I use for the hopper.  It seems to clog up often though.  anybody else have that problem?

I also have a buckethead from Home Depot and two buckets; one for ash and one for pellets.  I snap the buckethead on the pellet bucket and empty the hopper when needed, and can save the pellets.  It works great.

I have a 4 gallon Porter Cable used only for the pit.  It is small and easy to move around on and off the deck.

Same as DK - I have the Stinger. It's hard to beat at that price and it's great at this application.

I have two dedicated to it.
  • A bucket head to empty the hopper (when I feel like it)
  • A stainless steel one for ashes
