Replacing Heat Shield! Measurement?
« on: March 05, 2018, 03:57:38 PM »

I am replacing my old 3 piece heat shiled with the new one piece stainless.  I know you can slide these back and forth to even oyt side to side temps.  Is there a "rule of thumb" measrement from side to side that seemes to work well for everybody?

Thanks!

I just put in a new one a couple of weeks ago. I just kinda guessed and didn't measure though. I think it is about 1.5" from the right side drip trough. It has held really good temps across from the 150 - 250 range.  I think there was a post on here about measurements though.

I found 4 5/8" to 4 3/4" from the left side wall has worked best for me.

I believe that GMG recommends 4 5/8" from the left side. I was having large temperature variances from left side to right side at that measurement. I called GMG and the tech said to move it farther to the right. I did several tests and found that 5 1/8" was the sweet spot.
