We don't have whole milk in my household.  We have skim milk and half and half.  (Don't ask.)

Some recipes call for whole milk.  How do I recreate it from those components?  I need a ratio.

Just go out and buy some whole milk!

The amount of fat in Half and Half can vary quite a bit by brand. If you figure the average is around 14%, then you could use 25% half and half and 75% skim.

I wish I could help...It reminds me of math problems, there would be the ones where...don't have enough variables to answer the equation...or however it went.  I feel I am in that situation.  I say this with a straight face, if it calls for x amount of whole mike, it will be 3 times as good with x amount of half n half!

Whole Milk and Half-and-Half

Use these formulas to substitute one dairy product for another.

To Replace: 1 cup whole milk

    5⁄8 cup skim milk + 3⁄8 cup half-and-half
    2⁄3 cup 1% milk + 1⁄3 cup half-and-half
    3⁄4 cup 2% milk + 1⁄4 cup half-and-half
    7⁄8 cup skim milk + 1⁄8 cup heavy cream

To Replace: 1 cup half-and-half

    3⁄4 cup whole milk + 1⁄4 cup heavy cream
    2⁄3 cup skim or low-fat milk + 1⁄3 cup heavy cream
