I started on this thing about 2 years ago.  Finally got it down!  I am glad for editing, and for the sound not being real good in a couple of places!

I will try and measure next time down there, lets see, I always screw this up...diameter is across right?  My saw is 24 inches...I am gonna say maybe 32 inches.

I was defeated as a Lumberjack having to use the tractor, but I did beat the tree after 2 years!

White tail and the usual opossum, sunk and cotton tail.  And of course Mr. Squirrel!

It made it pucker a few times...I had so many different cuts on it!  I had notched the other side, expecting it to fall that direction.  When I got down there yesterday with the Wild Hair, it was leaning (not sure if you all could tell) in a 180° opposite direction. 

You cant tell in the video cuz I edited out most of it for time...but when I hit it for the 1st time, that big branch at the top to the right almost broke off.  I was afraid that was gonna be a widow maker, so I repositioned the tractor and put the ROPS up.  I hit it again and still nothing else, why I had to get the saw again. 

I could not figure out at 1st why I was bending over so low looking at the tree right before I start cutting?  I was trying to figure out which of the 79 different cuts I need to put the saw in to get close.  Yeah, it was puckering pretty good at that point, and then when I get back on the tractor, and it it, it starts to go, and then started to come back.  I thought I was in some deep Kimchee then, but it settled and I decided I was gonna hit it again and push till it went this time!

As I said in the description...All I kept thinking about was that scene in the movie...Sometimes a Great Notion...where Richard Jaeckel gets pinned by the tree (watch the trailer on youtube)!

A friend and I took down a lot of large White Pine this last year up at my cabin.  It is amazing how they stand up until the bitter end, with what seems to be so very little holding them up.
Wish I was there to help you.  We'd have a blast.

Years ago a friend, his young son and I went to get some fire wood. Alder was the targeted tree. Found a good patch of them that we could drive up to. Friend get out of the truck and starts to cut away on the first tree. While he was doing that I positioned my PU with his son in tow at a location opposite where he intended for the tree to fall. Not sure what went wrong but it started to fall coming right at me. Fortunately I was about to go full pedal to move out of the way. The tree landed with branches mere inches from us. Scared the Kajeebees out of all of us. That little boy had saucers for eyes all the way home. Definitely a level of risk when cutting down any tree with any girth to it. Lesson learned, Park vehicle far enough out of the way the risk is lowered.
