WiFi Controller calibration
« on: July 13, 2018, 03:41:52 PM »

Got the controller installed today. It went pretty smooth. The wire connectors are in different spots but labeled the same.

I’ve had it running at 350 for about an hour and I’m within 4-6 degrees of my Maverick ambient probe 1” from the grate in the middle of the smoker.

Looking good!  The first image I have seen with this controller on a 680.  You can adjust/offset the RTD too if wanting an exact match.

It really seems to produce a lot more smoke than before on the Lo setting.

4 screws and a few wire connectors.  I unplugged one wire at a time and attached it to the new controller just to eliminate confusion.  There is also a wifi antenna with a sticky pad to attach one end to the inside of the shelf.  I didn't attach it as I have a really solid wifi signal.

There are nuts on the screws in the front panel and they are a little hard to get to.  I had to use a nut-driver bit from my drill as it was hard to get a wrench in there.

I finally got the meat probes.  I did the ice bath test and both are off by 3 degrees.  Unfortunately I can't adjust them because I apparently have an older version of the controller.  I have version 101, the newest is 103.  You'd think I would get a new model having ordered it a couple weeks ago....

That's odd. I really hope when mine arrives, it's the newer one. I would contact them and ask them to send you the newer model!

I plan on it. Not looking forward to swapping it out once again. Between this and forgetting the meat probes they must be spending a fortune on shipping costs.

A replacement controller is on the way. They want me to return the one I have.

FYI. They said a stainless steel side shelf was in the works.

Hard to believe this has happened to you.  Sometimes bad luck comes in twos.  I kept my old controller for troubleshooting and a spare.

Not to combine two threads, but hope I can be available for the Weds. noon attempt at getting one this week.  Ross, thanks for the idea of "one wire at a time" install.  Will have to remember that too.

Are they still doing the Wednesday ordering?  I thought they just opened it up to all now with the expectation it won’t ship until October?

Hey, thanks for the info guys.  I just ordered the new controller.  The good and the bad..... my probe just went bad on the Maverick  I have been using (yesterday during a brisket cook), so on top of the basic controller, I now need a new probe, the bad, I will need to get another probe until the new system arrives in October.

Right when you plug the smoker in the screen will show Ver 101 or Ver 103. It’s not in the app.

So I installed the new controller.  I think it actually fires up faster.  But I got some wild temps between left and right middle of the grill.  The RTD pretty much stays right on the set temp but 2 probes on each side of the grill (L/R) gave very disparate temps.  First is after 90 mins at 225.

Second is at 2.5 hrs with corresponding temps from my ThermoWorks Smoke.  Not sure what to think.  Probes were placed either in a probe holder or on a rack 1” above the grates with the tips not contacting anything.  Thoughts?

My original controller I always had about a 10 degree discrepancy left to right and I just adjusted to it but this seems like a lot.  Was I doing something wrong?
