Oil-less Fryer
« on: October 21, 2018, 02:06:51 PM »

Anyone have a Char-Broil oil-less fryer?  I can get a free one from a work gift catalog, and am trying to decide if I should pick it or something else.

I have one, have had it for years. Works amazing for cooking a turkey. I have never used it for anything else but before I got my pellet smoker it was my go to turkey cooker. I still have it kicking around the garage just in case. I have seen online people using it to cook other things and I know they have some accessories but I can only attest to the fact that it is a great turkey cooker.

I picked up one last year after my brother raved about them. I did a turkey and it came out well. My personal preference is using peanut oil but the oil-less did well.

If you can get one for free you can't go wrong.

Is that the Big Easy infrared propane model?  I think they also have an infrared propane one called an SRG (Smoker, Roaster, Grill).

I used to read a lot of posts about how well they cooked on a now defunct Charbroil forum.  I had a Charbroil infrared gas grill that I hated even though other posters loved theirs so I steered away from all Charbroil infrared products.

Oil-less Fryer.

To fry something...

fry
verb (used with object), fried, fry·ing.
to cook in a pan or on a griddle over direct heat, usually in fat or oil.

My vote does not count, but it is in the something else box!

I've used an SRG for years and it is good for quite a few things. I would not consider it a "fryer" but I use it for chicken, roasted potatoes, and most often pork butt, so "roaster" is probably the best descriptor. Oddly enough, I've never been able to do a good turkey on the unit, but the chicken is better than I can cook on anything else. I have a cast iron wok, and it is kind of fun to use it as the heat source when having company.

Been quite a while, used to cook for the boys at work. Had 2 of them I bought at a closeout store for $50 each. Cook time depends on wind and temp. These things hate wind. As far as temp, only change  you can make is lid on or off. I had no problems bringing wings up to a 192 internal to get the super crispy skin. Not dry at all. Most were done in an hour.

Care to share any of the other options that make the short list?
