Is BBQing a sport?
« on: November 06, 2018, 09:09:58 AM »

Saw this and thought, what a great idea! There are some schools in Texas that are putting together varsity grill teams. I think this could catch on!

Don't see why not.  Just heard a few years ago there are high school and college fishing teams.

its a club team, not a traditional sport.    But I love the idea no matter what you call it.  Sounds like a lot of fun and a good learning experience plus community building.

"...an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess..."

A sport no, a competition, most certainly!

So, you don't think doing 12 oz curls while working your smoker requires athleticism and skill?  I'm afraid we are going to have to kick you off the island...lol.  Please bring me your torch.  The tribe has spoken. :P :pig:

Probably a sport for us fat kids.

Teaching kids competition is a great idea though

Probably more of a hobby than a sport for me ever since I was introduced to a pellet grill in 2013.

IMO it depends. For me it is a hobby, however, others may consider it a sport based on the criteria of a sport is.  Many consider chess and the Chinese game of Go a sport albeit a mental sport.  Some consider the games on the web a sport.

For me it is just fun and when it stops being fun I will only grill and no longer BBQ. :D
