2019 Juke Joint Festival - Clarksdale, MS
« on: March 12, 2019, 10:11:46 PM »

I'm headed back down South in a few weeks to go to the Juke Joint Festival in my wife's hometown for the 2nd year a row.  Hitting Muscle Shoals, AL, the MS Gulf Coast, and Eastern Louisiana for 5 days prior to the festival to see some more music related sites.  Probably going to hit The Shed on the Gulf Coast to see what that is all about for BBQ.  Here is the Saturday night lineup.  May not be many you recognize without doing some research on who they are and giving them a listen.  The lineup during the afternoon from 10am to 6pm is even bigger than the night time lineup.  I'm planning to see about 30 bands that weekend.  I like to listen to one for about 15 minutes and then walk to another "stage".

Do you prefer the chips or the spears?

We will be close by at a local COE campground from 4/10 and we leave the morning of 4/13.  Some of our friends will be boondocking at the festival in their RV's throughout the weekend.

I sent you a PM. Would love to meet up if we can.  Right now I am open most of the morning and afternoon of the 10th, siteseeing and festival most of the other days.

BTW, the festival is free with things going on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday afternoons and evening.  Saturday night there are cover charges and on some on Thur and Fri nights.

www.jukejointfestival.com has the daily schedule - and you can see monkeys riding dogs herding sheep

Saw them last year...not on my go to list for this year.  My goal is to see Reverend Peyton's Big D*** Band play at the bigger venue on Saturday night and then again on the front porch of Cathead on  Sunday morning.  Festival is much bigger than it was last year or now that I am a veteran of one year I know how to get around better but seems like more venues/stage/sidewalks/porches.

Don't blame you if you have already seen them!  I liked the name, I hate the blues!

Today, I went to FAME and Muscle Shoals Sound Studios.  Amazed at the history of top hits recorded at these locations.  Here is a picture of where Keith Richards wrote "Wild Horses" at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.

Have only seen 22 bands so far due to a multitude of reasons including the 3 inches of rain, strong winds, and tornado watch yesterday.  Will see a few more today and then shut it down to pack to fly home tomorrow.

I saw 3 more this morning to put me at 25.  Last year I think I saw 30.  I usually watch about 15 minutes of a band and then go to another stage to see another band.  I would say out of the 25, I probably watched the whole set of about 10 bands this year.

Just double checked.  Only saw 23 last year.  Had a few extra days this year which helped to see more.
