My wife and I are looking to buy the LG 65 inch OLED 4K HDR Smart TV and was wondering if anyone has one and what you all think about it.

From what I've read recently, LG is considered one of the best. Three of the top four rated in consumer reports are LG.

I haven’t had an OLED of any brand. But I have owned both Samsung & LG and I definitely prefer Samsung. Smart functions are considerably better (on my TVs at least)

Samsung is my favorite too, but I have never had an LG.  My next "spare" TV is probably going to be the 50: TCL with Roku built in for $300 on Amazon.

About a month ago I bought a 75" Samsung 800 series UHD TV. It works fine and has a great smart processor function, but there are several items that make it hard to integrate it with my amplifier/speaker/satellite/blue tooth system .

Just run digital audio cable out of the TV right into your system.  No need to change anything then to get sound.  Whatever is on the TV will run through it regardless of it being satellite, DVD, Xbox, etc.  I have a 75" Samsung and I run it right into the Samsung soundbar with digital audio cable.  I have had zero issues for over 3 years.

I’ll throw in my 2 cents. I have had some poor luck with LG products. From computer monitors that shut off randomly to blu-ray players with HDMI ports that were DOA. I’ve had a couple monitors since that have been fine so far and have better pictures than Samsung’s I’ve tried. So, I’m guessing their quality has improved over past 3-4 years. If you can afford it and won’t become insanely angry if components inside it fail and need repair go for it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a review that says OLED doesn’t have the best pictures you can buy.

I’ve had about every HD TV type since the 2007 except OLED. Nothing came close to my Panasonic plasma until I got a Vizio LED with true zoned backlighting (P series). For most people, this technology is hard to beat and usually can be had for around 60% of OLED prices. Unless, you have an OLED sitting right next to it, you won’t have any idea what you are missing either and the chances of having any issues should be less than OLED. Vizio, Samsung, and Sony all have nice zone baclklight TVs. Color balance and black levels are much much better than any edge lit TV.

I have a 34" LG computer monitor that I love.  Great value and great price.  Probably had it 2-3 years without any issues and it gets used probably 60+ hours a week.

I currently have the 55" 4K LG it has been doing well , The Sony and the Samsung seem to have better black other than that I am very pleased.

I have had 3 of the TCL Tv's in the past 2 years. 2 of which the screen cracked while wacthing it. They would not warranty it. Many complaints about the TCL having thermal crack issues. and not warranting.

Could not understand why the picture on my new 4K 55" curved Samsung was not as sharp as it was in the store showroom.  Answer, No stations broadcasts in 4 K yet, tho some special events are shown in 4K in parts of the country.  Here is a blurb I took off the net:

"There are no 4K Over-the-Air TV broadcasts available today. However, the FCC has approved the voluntary rollout of a newer broadcast TV standard known as ATSC 3.0 which – among other benefits – does support beautiful 4K UHD picture quality.Sep 16, 2018"

I checked here in Tulsa with major channels.  No 4K . 

My picture quality is good and my old 47 Samsung is just as good as the new, but neither as good as in the store display.  So--it would seem to me that we are being sold an improved product that we cannot as yet enjoy.  I am told that 4K may be coming in 2019? 
While this is no help as to what is the best TV I thought you might like to know (if you did not already).

4k is available on streaming services and UHD blu-ray though. A couple years ago, a lot of places would tell you that when you stopped in front of a 4k TV. Now, they probably falsely assume everyone knows they’re not going to get it on broadcast TV yet. The funny thing is it’s hard to find a HD TV now even though almost everything being watched is still 720/1080. Personally, I think HDR is better than 4k unless you have a monster TV or sit insanely close. It’s great for computer monitors 32 inches and up.

not much that hasn't been said, but I'll trow mine in 

Samsung dishwasher xxxxxxx out in under 5 years.  Replaced with an LG and very happy.
Samsung TV (one needed repair, one needed replacement, still have them both, and I do love them when they are working)
Samsung Fridge ice dispenser clogs.
LG washer and dryer, do a fine job.

Both quality brands.  If I was looking for a TV I'd go Samsung again only because when they are working, they are beautiful to look at.

4K.   This reminds me of the HD transition about 15 years ago.  There was one single documentary about a lighthouse on Comcast playing on repeat for months at a time.    4K on DirecTV is only marginally better for content.   You have a mostly wildlife documentary channel and then live sports pretty frequently.   

Get the 4K, future-proof your TV.   Then again most people get new TV's every 7 years or less.

PS don't sweat the decision too much.  My(long since retired) 2009 Phillips 42 inch LCD with backlight cost double anything you'l pay today at Costco.   TV's have come way down in cost since then.

A few years ago I replaced a Phillips TV with a Samsung.  In my situation I use rabbit ears for local TV, and then use a Roku box for streaming channels - no cable/satellite service.  The digital antenna built into the Samsung stinks in comparison to the one on the Phillips.  If over the air TV is a need for the TV, then I would recommend against the Samsung.

I have 6 Samsung TV's in our house ranging from a probably 15+ year old DLP, a probably 10+ year old 40in LED or whatever the flatscreen tech was back then that was not plasma, and the other four are probably 4-8 years old.  I probably use 2 of them on average 4-8 hours a day.  Have never had a problem with any of them.  The others get used, but not as often and they all still work fine.  Even the DLP still works.  I use that for when there are 4 sporting events on that I want to watch.

I am told that TCL are much cheaper and perform as well as any.  I would like to dump cable (they are outrageously expensive, and sell channels only in groups.  Usually a group has one or two of my channels and the other 45 are junk. I am told to just get Roku and dump cable.  ?? Any experience there?
