Flat Top Griddle
« on: April 24, 2019, 09:48:00 PM »

Just seen that Menards has the Blackstone 36" stainless griddle on sale at a great price. 199.99

Looks like it is the newest version and if so it's a good deal.

If you have a store near you it's worth checking out if you have been thinking about one.

Well, I had been debating one of these for a while, then when I saw this last week my thinking went into hi gear.     Since the sale ends today, I bit the bullet and picked one up yesterday.     Used it last night to cook a full hibachi meal with fried rice, chicken, steak, shrimp and veggies.    It turned out fantastic, and I am very impressed with this griddle, pretty nice unit for $200.

No way without much grief, to cook that meal in a conventional kitchen...kudos!  Same with tepanyaki, Big breakfast, or classic cheese steak!

OC-If it tastes as good as it looks, you've got it made. I am envious.

They must be wonderful for family and large volume cooking.  Have all the eggs, bacon, hash browns and pancakes ready at once! Or Burgers, or X...

Looks like they changed the grease trap design. Hopefully it works better than mine where half the grease ends up on the patio.

You aren't going to regret it. Makes a wonderful partner to the pellets.
And always important to have the right kind of spatula for a griddle too. Most are designed for round, small pans you use on the stove.

Any good recommendations?  I have a couple of these which worked just fine on the above meal, but I’m planning on trying smashburgers tonight and I think they may be a little too flexible for that purpose.    Open to recommendations on other useful griddle accessories as well.

That will work well. You may want a Winco spatula made for burgers that are heavier and wider for smashing and lifting them. Then grab a longer one for everything else. I think you can get both plus a fish turner for $20.

Osborn, that hibachi spread looks awesome.  Looks better the restaurant version.

How do you clean the griddle?  Do you scrape it hard like the hibachi chefs do?

Do you have recipes for the hibachi dipping sauces?

I have a really stiff Red Devil paint scraper that I use on my pizza baking steel, so I just scraped it real good with it on low heat, and then I squirt water on it and wipe it down before the water completely evaporates, repeating that 3-4 times.    I follow that up with a liberal coat of canola oil on all surfaces.    I’m kind of treating it just like it’s one of my cast iron pans, hopefully that will work out.

As far as sauces, I used store bought.    All the meat got drizzled with just a little Sweet Baby Ray’s Teriyaki sauce right before I removed from the griddle and then some Ying’s Yum Yum sauce for dipping.
