Griddle Hack
« on: June 01, 2019, 01:28:40 PM »

Has anybody on this site purchased a griddle hack (made by BBQHack.com)?  I am considering one as it would be nice to have a flat top for cheese steaks and burgers.  It appears to work with several different pellet grills.  The company also makes a pizza hack that sits over the griddle hack that turns it into a pizza oven (similar to the one that GMG makes for their grills).

I've never heard of it, but now you have me thinking about one.  I've been wanting a griddle but don't need another thing to take up space.  Hmmmm

I had a look at their site. Looks well made and a good idea..My only concern is HEAT CONTROL. The pit would have to be run on high as the heat sensor wouldn't work, unless the pit has a direct flame heat

control such as the Memphis.  :2cents:

Thanks for sharing.  Certainly an interesting idea.

Seems too complex for me.  I have a nice "Little Griddle"  11" x 20" made of anodized aluminum and ceramic coated. Good for temps up to 450*  It has a decent grease trough.  Have used it for burgers, eggs etc and it works well, and extremely easy to clean.  Just lay it on top of the regular grates in my GS.  Stores in cabinets with cookie sheets etc.  I think it cost $40-$50.  Can do burgers for 6, but there are only two of us most of the time.

Should have researched this item before posting.  It appears that this item was $59 and is rated for 525* BUT no longer available at the Little Griddle website.  Seams they have only steel griddles for sale now.  They sell their items at Lowe's also.  Sorry bout that.

I was going to say that these things are great for the kitchen, where you can have a constant flame on them and you dont bleed all the heat like you would on a pellet unit.  But after looking at videos of it, I see it fits right over the combustion chamber.  Yes, I do believe this will stay hot enough even with the lid open, and that is how I want to use a griddle, i want to be able to access it 100% lid open.  This thing might actually work as a griddle on a pellet unit.

And I dont want to disparage something like Okie posted, or something like the Little Griddles, I think they are great products, just better suited for a kitchen range then a pellet grill!

I breath smoke when my grill is open. Also, I would prefer better access to the food than my smoker provides. I would prefer to put a griddle on my Weber kettle. I get 360 degree access. What I would really like is a Mongolian barbecue.

What I would really like is Mongolian barbecue recipes to use on my Little Griddle.

Yeah, I know, they just dump in what I hand them, but 15 minutes after I finish my plate I don't recall what I handed them.  And I need the sauce recipes.

I watched a few more videos of this unit on youtube and all seemed to be very positive reviews.  I may have to look into selling my Camp Chef griddle that is still in the box and get one of these.  Oh, decisions, decisions...

I know.  It seems like it could be a nice to have.  As far as the Youtube reviews go I seldom see bad reviews (I suspect that many Youtube reviewers get sent free stuff and are reluctant to bad mouth any items as that may cut off their flow of free stuff).

I watched one guy that just talked about the unit and gave some pretty honest feedback on things to pay attention to.  Now to figure out whether to use my Blazn or Traeger XL for it.  I am leaning toward the XL so I can put the griddle on one side and just keep it there and use the other fire pot for wings.

This Little Griddle looks like what I want.  I have a 3-burner Weber gasser on my deck and this would fit perfectly.  The heat control of the different burners will be useful.  I currently use a Lodge Cast Iron flat grill pan but I'm really living on the edge with grease fires when I do smash burgers.  I need a better option and one that is large enough for teppenyaki and cheesesteaks.

I used one like that on a Weber I had about a year or so ago, and just couldn't get the heat to stay there with the lid open.

I just keep the lid closed in-between checking and flipping.  I could not retain the heat either.  I wonder if the sear kit models will work without closing the lid? They would have to be the ones that are in the center. Or you could just remove both the drip pan and diffuser. That would be just as easy as installing the Griddle Hack. ???
