How Did You Choose Your Handle?
« on: July 18, 2019, 08:19:37 AM »

Or user name.. I find some  of them interesting to say the least..For me, " Canadian John " evolved many years ago @ a national sales and service meeting. I was called Canadian John to distinguish me from

some of the others by one of our reps who was from Alabama. He called me that for many years after..

DK, first and last initials.

117, call sign for a video game I played 18 years ago.  DK117 stuck.  Can't even call myself a gamer anymore as I haven't turned my Xbox on in a year and then a year prior to that.    Don't get me wrong, there's some amazing games out there these days, I just don't have the time.  I imagine when us Gen Xers get to retirement age, you'll see a spike in aged gamers.

Mudflap= It was what senior operators called new hires in the Paper mill I work at when I transferred into in 1995. Not politically correct anymore. So when I joined the pellet cooking world I was a newbie and didn't think it was taken...

You can probably guess.

I've never wanted to be anonymous.

Mine goes back years ago when my wife and I first had a "shared" email address, I think it was on AOL.  We both really like to cook so "cooking" was the start.  My name is Joe and my wife is June so the next part had to be "jnj" so it all comes out as cookingjnj.  I actually use this as my user name on most sites I have joined.  Besides cooking the other hobby I love is riding my road bicycle (although have not been on it much lately), hence my Avatar.

For 26 years I was a heating/cooling & plumbing contractor.
York equipment was the line we carried, one time a new customer told me when I asked them how they found me that their friend recommended us but she did not know my name just the company name and she said just ask for the "Yorkdude". It just kind of stuck from there on out, in fact that was the plate on my service truck when I was out in the field, later transferred to our car for several years.

It's a Rush song.
Not their best or even one of my favorites, but the one that sounded most like a "handle".

Character that John Malkovich plays in the Coen Brothers movie “Burn After Reading”.  Not sure why, but I used it when I signed up for Words with Friends years ago and I’ve just kind of stuck with it on all the forums, etc I’ve Subsequently signed up for.

This thread is a lot more interesting than I thought it would be.

One friend, not even a close friend, in high school called me by the name I use as my handle for the last couple months of high school. No one else ever did and I never saw him after graduation, but I kind of liked the name and decided to use it as my internet handle from then on.

I had a few friends in high school that called me RanRoc. We hung out with a guy named Eric but we called him E-Roc. I guess people started transferring that “roc” part over to my name as well. It just stuck.
