Costco Beef Prices

The last few weeks I have gone into Costco looking for some prime ribeye steaks.  My local Costco only had choice and they wanted $9.59 a pound.  A month or so I paid about a $1 a pound less.  Today I checked and my Costco did not have any prime beef at all.  I smoked a prime brisket yesterday and again all they had today was choice.  I had a neighbor that has also been looking for prime ribeyes at Costco and they could not find any either.

Any idea what is happening?

I was at the local Sam's Club tonight and saw a whole cooler section full of different cuts of Prime beef for the first time in 18 years as a member.  Whole brisket $3.58/#.

do you remember the flooding in the midwest in early spring?
when the Missouri river (and another I think) got blocked up by ice and poured over it's banks
flooding lots of beef and pork farms

I'd imagine that has something to do with the supply

Our local Costco has been pretty consistent supply of prime cuts like rib eye, rib eye caps steaks and strip, but have never seen a prime brisket, only choice flats (remember I am in NJ, so packers are a rarity in most stores).  My last trip on Sunday picked up a package of choice rib eyes from Costco.  Color of the meat and marbling were almost like a prime.....they were really good.

I too, now find prime beef at Sam's Club locations in my area. I'm not in a situation where I can compare prices with the Costo crowd. I just assume that their prices are fairly even across the board.

They have the prime at my costco today.  Ribeye, tenderloin, pinwheel ribeye, tomahawks etc. Also briskets in Prime.  Must be a regional thing.

Those pinwheel ribeye caps are just about as good as it gets for a steak. I rarely eat steak just as a steak. I've just never found it exciting. Those are worth eating just on their own to me.

Not really in regards to beef prices, but our local Fareway stores just put pork butts on sale for $.99/lb. 8-10 lb average weight.

I didn’t want to start a short lived thread so I figured I’d use this one since it’s about prices.

I just received the ad from our Restaurant Depot. Boneless leg of lamb is $4.29 per pound (individual roasts).  Any idea how that compares to Costco, Sams, & grocery stores?

Have not bought lamb anywhere in 18 months.  I would think comparable with Costco, quality might be an issue.  I know Costco will be Australian lamb.

I'm not following you.  We don't eat lamb but have been discussing it.  Are you saying that Costco's lamb may not be high quality?
