Another pizza party this weekend but I need a vegan meal
« on: August 14, 2019, 01:34:02 AM »

We are having folks over for some more wood fired pizza on my Daniel Boone. A hiking buddy will be here and I just found out he is on a vegan diet.

He has not eaten red meat for years so we were getting ready with some chicken. Now I need to think about vegan.

So anyone have a good vegan recipe? I may have to put it on a BBQ since my smoker will be cranking out pizzas.

Why not make a vegan pizza or two..We do a lot of them..Tomato sauce, sliced mushrooms, caramelized onions, red/green and or yellow peppers, ripe ( black) olives, tomato slices, asparagus- now out of

season.. The list goes on..The caramelized onions are tend to add a certain special touch..Just use some or all of the toppings listed.  As always, Happy Cooking!

I don't think he eats gluten. We do cauliflower crust but it has some wheat in it to help bind it. You can do it without but I am not sure how it would turn out.

We have a trained cook who lives with us who has experimented a lot with cauliflower crusts.

Try Buffalo Chicken Cauliflower pizza. Several good recipes out there. Watch the meat eaters go after it!

Don't know anything about what they can or can't but at least to me, if a pizza doesn't have cheese, I am out.
Is it because it is made from dairy? For that matter, what is the difference between vegetarian and vegan?

I don't think vegans eat cheese.
Some in California tend to make up there own rules.
"At the first level vegetarians eat animal products that did not kill the animal. Cows, goats or sheep are not killed when they are milk so the milk is vegetarian.
At the next level cheese is made by fermenting with a bacteria culture. Bacteria is vegetarian.
At the final level the enzyme rennet is used to curdle the milk. Rennet can come from plant or animal sources. The plant sources are vegetarian. The animal sources require killing the animal as the rennet comes from the pancreas."
