Interesting Masterbuilt Product.
« on: October 18, 2019, 04:40:39 PM »

Was never a fan of Masterbuilt stuff, but this new charcoal thing they have seems interesting. Can't wait to see the reviews and opinions once it is out. MSRP is 500 on their website.

Cool. Basically looks like a gravity feed smoker with a fan and temp control. Great idea if it works as advertised.

Yes, it is interesting.

Even though I'm a Pellet Fan (get it?), I can't turn my back on clever multifunctional equipment.  I wish they had a forum that matches PelletFan's social style.

That is an interesting unit.  Sorta like a pellet grill with charcoal instead of pellets.

I am not sure how it works exactly, it seems like what I ready it has a fan to force the hot air into the cook chamber. I would assume some of the lit coal goes in also.

I will be looking for one of these when they come out,to look a build and how it works. cooking area seems to be kind of small 2 shelves is 560 sq inches.  Not sure about the longevity of it as it looks like they are out of the pellet cooker business already, or at lest I did not see any on their website.

I love it, anything that makes smoking meat more accessible is A-OK with me.

This looks like a gravity fed charcoal smoker with an integrated PID to control airflow. Like adding a CyberQ or Fireboard Fan to a charcoal grill. Gravity smokers have always looked neat to me.

Now that's interesting.  I started out with a Weber Smokey Mountain and really enjoyed the flavors produced by the charcoal and wood but it was a pain to maintain a long smoke.  I know there is a fan controller option to maintain temps but this Masterbuilt is on another level.

Looks pretty nice. I do miss charcoal cooking sometimes when I’m using the gasser. It’s one of the reasons I got a Pellet grill to begin with.

My bet: you turn the fan off and close a couple of vents. The fire starves to death.

That is interesting.  I want to see how it works.  Seems like the whole hopper would light like sschorr said.  Awful expensive for my cheap tastes though.

That's too funny as I was thinking the opposite that I'm questioning what it's likely quality will be at such a low price point and being a Masterbuilt product. You cannot find too many high quality cookers for that price, especially those with a thermostat. However, I suppose no auger, igniter, etc. to raise production and support costs compared to a pellet grill. On another site, someone mentioned that the same investment group now owns Masterbuilt, Kamado Joe, and Smoke Hollow.

If this would happen to be a good quality product, it could become popular quick for those that are comparing to pellet grills with a cheaper price and burning theoretically cheaper fuel.

This was my first, second, and third thought.
