Are you saying you made this up in your mind or this is a real day?

Guess I’ll have to get some creme brûlée sandwich cookies from Target, best cookies I’ve had in recent memory.

No, it is an actual national day, I guess recognized by Congress.  It is just that the manufacturers and Congress make hese days up.

In honor of National Cookie Day -- today -- I will impart this tidbit I just learned:

"On Monday, Oreo confirmed the mystery flavor for 2019 is a churro-flavored creme. In September, Oreo launched the cookies with a contest asking participants to guess the flavor."

Did not know about the contest, but now we all know the answer.

If you google "nationaldaycalendar" there will be a list of all the unofficial official holidays. There is also information on how to create your own holiday. Apparently cookies are not the only holiday today. The site lists December 4, 2019 as: NATIONAL COOKIE DAY – NATIONAL SOCK DAY – NATIONAL DICE DAY – NATIONAL PACKAGE PROTECTION DAY!

Just a heads up, tomorrow is: INTERNATIONAL NINJA DAY, NATIONAL SACHER TORTE DAY, NATIONAL REPEAL DAY (anniversary of the end of prohibition), and BATHTUB PARTY DAY (not sure how to celebrate that one).

Any thought to creating National Pellet Appreciation Day?

NATIONAL COOKIE DAY
National Cookie Day on December 4th serves up a sweet treat. Bakers across the country warm up the ovens for holiday baking, and tins of cookies are given to friends and family all season long.

We can thank the Dutch for more than windmills and tulips.  The English word “cookie” is derived from the Dutch word koekie meaning “little cake.”
Hard cookie-like wafers have existed for as long as baking has been documented. Not surprisingly, they traveled well. However, they were usually not sweet enough to be considered cookies by modern-day standards.
The origin of the cookie appears to begin in Persia in the 7th century, soon after the use of sugar became common in the region. They then spread to Europe through the Muslim conquest of Spain. Cookies were common at all levels of society throughout Europe by the 14th century, from the royal cuisine to the street vendors.

Cookies arrived in America in the 17th century.  Macaroons andgingerbread cookies were among the popular early American cookies.

In most English-speaking countries outside of North America, the most common word for cookie is “biscuit.”  In some regions, both terms, cookies and biscuits are used.

Cookies are classified into different categories, with the most common ones being:

Bar cookies – Drop cookies – Filled cookies
Molded cookies – No bake cookies
Pressed cookies – Refrigerator cookies
Rolled cookies – Sandwich cookies

Truly a great day.

I've always eaten original OREO cookies by the large handful.
Never had a chocolate covered OREO.
Seems like I'm always last to the party.

Just went through a bag of the chocolate covered variety and
-LOOK OUT. Are they good or what?
I had the package of them in the refrigerator, 'til I devoured them.
Being cold made them extra firm & crunchy.

Yep, not a huge fan of original Oreo's but the fudge covered ones are my "go to" cookie now.

Oreos or Hydrox?  (My Jewish friends don't have a choice.)

What in the Oreo's makes them not orthodox?  Reminds me of an old scene from Seinfeld...

If you have an Aldi's near you, it seems like they have made knock offs of several of the Girls Scouts cookies and sell them for about what the Girl Scouts probably pays for them (about $0.25 on the $).  In case you are wondering, I think they are just as good if not better at Aldi's.

Oreos were made from pork lard.  They haven't used it for a few years so they could be Kosher.  But some Orthodox Jews don't trust the manufacturing machine's cleaning and still hold to the old rules because there may be dairy residue left behind.  (We had to call a Rabbi.)

I don't buy cookies from the Girl Scouts for the cookies, I buy because I was a Brownie and Girl Scout and those cookie sales paid for some fun things which we did as a troop. ;D
