Gasket?
« on: December 10, 2019, 07:08:20 AM »

After smoking some cheese I noticed most of my smoke was going straight up and out through the 1/16" gap of the lid directly above the smoke tube.  So I am thinking of putting a gasket on my DB.  I am thinking I would only need to put the gasket on the top of the lid being smoke goes up.  But will a gasket on the top make the lid not close everywhere else?  I know I don't want it to be airtight, so I am thinking I do not want a gasket everywhere.  Where and what is the best gasket to get?

Any recommendations and/or comments are appreciated.

On the old site there was a thread titled Sealing up the door.
Seeings how that site is no longer, I did what was discussed, sealed the door with red RTV.
Waste of time. Gasket is still in place years later but it made no difference on the smoke flavor to whatever
I had in there.

Are you able to run your fan with no heat and just the smoke tube when doing cheese?
I tried this without the fan with stock controller and got some nasty cheese.
With the Savannah Stoker controller I'm able to run just the fan while smoking cheese and things
turned out much better.

It's like an iceberg, you don't see 90% of the smoke.  You do not need a gasket.

I'm sure there is still plenty of smoke in the chamber.
