Apologies if you already know about this.

For my forums I use Stop Forum Spam - http://www.stopforumspam.com/

It is kinda like a community resource. You precheck new registrations against their list, and if you get a spammer that's not on their list, you log the details so others will gain from your experience.

They have scripts that plug into most forums to more or less automate this process (Resources menu on their site, Mods and Plugins). I don't know how the SMF plugin works, but I can see one exists.

Free to use, and I have been using them for years, and it turns administering new registrations for a site into a fairly straightforward thing. I reckon it catches about 95% of my potential spammers, which means I have to eyeball fewer registrations.

I did not. Hopefully LSFS will see this and if he thinks it is needed will implement.  Thank you!

Ingredients:  Pork with Ham.

See, I have never gotten Ham?  I guess that Ham, if it is not cured is just the back leg of the hog?  I guess what I am trying to say is, if you just cook up the back leg of a hog, you are not serving ham?

I love Spam (in the low sodium variety). But it's too spendy for my blood.
I've taken to Dak ham in the much larger tin for a better price point.

I think we should have a giveaway for the member that reports the most spammers in a 6 month period.

The stopforumspam SMF plugin is very effective, when I ran a couple forums, I always used it.

Good to know. My main forum is currently stuck on a very old version of phpBB, due to the latest version no longer supporting event calendars. Am considering a move to SMF, I need to find the time and enthusiasm to look into porting the forum across - it uses a lot of bespoke code at the moment.

I saw that and was going to let you know.  Sleebus got his keen eye on it first.  I'm surprised it took this long.

Me too!

But when you check every IP address before you approve, it helps a great deal.  And guess what I did not do this morning before I approved all 9?  Yes...lesson learned!

You'd be serving roast pork. The pork becomes ham after it's been cured.
