Member Prize Drawing -- ThermoWorks Signal
« on: July 07, 2020, 05:02:35 PM »

ThermoWorks has very graciously given PelletFan the ThermoWorks Signal to give away to one lucky member.  Thank you ThermoWorks!!!

If you wish to be entered in the drawing, you need to do the following (it is a bit different than prior drawings, so pay attention!):

1.  To receive a drawing number, you need to post, in this thread, a comment about the Signals product or something you observed and liked in the review.  It does not need to be lengthy, but needs to be specific -- no "I really like this product".  So, for example:  "I like 'X' feature on the Signals" or "I like that 'Y' was tested on the Signals."

2.  I will read your post and then assign you a number, again in this thread, in your post.

3.  We will keep this thread open and accepting entries until 8 pm (Eastern) on Tuesday, July 14.

4.  At 8:30 pm (Eastern) on July 14, I will use the random number generator to pick the winning number and announce it in this thread.

5.  One entry per member.

6. The winner must be willing to provide an address, via PM, to me so that we can send the unit.

Any questions, please either PM me or post here.

Good luck to those who enter the drawing!  I will not be entering as I already own one that I have yet to use due to pure laziness.

First off a big THANK YOU to Thermoworks and also to Bentley and Kristen for doing this.

A couple things that I liked about the Signals.

1. How well and easy the WIFI was use. I followed the brisket cook quite a bit with no issues at all.
2. The range of the Bluetooth.

Good luck to all that enter.

Entry No. 15 (I am starting higher up because I think folks think lower numbers have less of a chance!)

Excellent review. I did see a few things I liked over my current Tappeque. Also the ability to add a bellows fan is nice to have available if needed.

I was also interested in the range of the Bluetooth because we don’t have WiFi at the summer cottage, and the combination of WiFi and Bluetooth makes this product particularly interesting to me.    Thanks to Thermoworks and Bentley/Kristen for the review.

I presently have a Fireboard, but definitely like the display on the Signals with all four probes showing at the same time.
I don't have a stick burner, but also like that it can control the Bellows.

Thanks for allowing Bentley to test it.

I liked the fact that Kyle from ThermoWorks was available to answer questions. By the fact that he had
4 posts for the trial kind of says the app and hardware have been well thought out. Many times the apps
lag behind the hardware.  Thanks to ThermoWorks for allowing this product evaluation !!!  Also Thanks to
Bentley for doing the evaluation and giving us "Just the Facts" !!!!

Wow that's great of ThermoWorks to do this!!   Thanks to them

I really like the idea of having 4 channels with this unit because at times I will run two different grills next to each other and would only need the one thermometer to keep and eye on them    Also I can relax and use my phone if the temp is way to hot outside  and it gets HOT here!

The other reason THEY WORK!  Love the instant reads I have and they are spot on!!

Thanks to everyone involved with the test and the donation!  I liked the ease of set up and use.  It appears easy enough that even I could do it.

I think you will need their cable extensions in order to be able to use this device on more than one grill.  The cables with the unit are about 3ft long I think and the extender adds about 3ft. I have them and they work great.  I have not tried adding to extenders to make it 9ft though so I don't know if that would work.

I really liked having 4 channels instead of 2. the bluetooth range was impressive and i can see where that would eliminate dead spots at my house. The setup seems to be very easy which is a plus. Thanks again for the review and Thermaworks for donating...

Best of luck to those entering! I'm hoping that someone that really needs it gets drawn. I love Thermoworks products (except the fridge/freezer alarm I bought that is a pain to program) and think many things about the Signals looks great, but I already have a Fireboard that does everything i need it to and has been regulated to mostly charcoal cooks with WiFi on the pellet grills. About the only time I put it on a pellet grill anymore is overnight cooks to make sure it doesn't flame out and as they keep improving the firmware on the Woodwind and SmokeFire this may not be needed much longer. Great looking product and so cool that Thermoworks donated it to be tested and given away. My decision would have been tough if this was out when I was buying the FireBoard.

I'm a PF Global Moderator, so I don't think it's appropriate for me to enter a random drawing, but I wanted to post–
  • To thank ThermoWorks for providing the Signal so we can read a Product Test that we trust.
  • To thank Kyle for taking time from his busy day to act as our resource.  Great company, great guy.
  • To say that to me, the ease of operation is its most valuable feature.  I love using computers but I don't want to be a programmer in order to make the features work.

I would like to join the chorus of people thanking ThermoWorks for providing the Signal for evaluation and to Bentley for doing the leg work. It was a very informative thread. I liked the simplicity of being able to use it with a $79 phone. I think Bentley and I must have very simular taste in phones! I am not real techie minded but I think I could actually figure this one out. Thanks again for all involved!!
