Solidteknics Frying Pans

ArborAgent mentioned Solidteknics Frying Pans near the end of this post.  It was the first I had heard of them (this repeatedly happens, it's one of the many reasons I love Pellet Fan).  Since then I've watched for information on them.  They are highly regarded.

They were exclusively made in Australia but are being made in the United States now.   I think they're worth a look.

This is an old video, but I doubt if anything has changed.  Solidteknics video.

It's a great marketing video.

I'm not convinced these statements are true:

"Every time you scrape a non-stick pan you are putting toxic chemicals in your food".
"Every year millions of not-stick pans go the landfills".

Seems to me if there were toxic chemicals being scraped into foods, the FDA might have something to say about it.

We had Calphalon non stick pans for near 20 years before we replaced them.
And that is only because proper utensils weren't available then.

We have Swiss Diamond pans now and with Silicon utensils now, it is unlikely we will be scraping any "toxic chemicals" into foods and they should last us forever.

Just my  :2cents:

Where did the Calphalon pans go when you replaced them?  Possibly to the landfill?

Ask the folks who used to work at the factory that made teflon if it's dangerous.  Oh wait, you can't, they died from multiple cancers.  Some things build up in the body slowly, insidiously creating problems such as DNA mutations, cancer and other issues.  But the slow process makes it difficult to trace.

I hope that my comments aren't offensive or seem quarrelsome.  I don't want to be combative, just plain-spoken.  I've been told time and again that I'm blunt, so I try to not be, but whenever I do I feel that I weaken my argument.

Wasn't non-stick layer disappearing, it was scratches due to not having proper utensils available then.

Yes, landfill,  but they stated you have to replace them every 3-5 years I believe.

Not offended, but if toxicity worried any of us, we wouldn't be smoking meats. Smoke is loaded with carcinogens.

Excellent points.

I'm beginning to wonder if inhaling chemical vapors and smoke is more likely to create cancers than ingesting non-stick coatings and smoke.

Had to laugh a little when they put the butter in the pan then the egg and say great non stick.  I can do that with a SS and it will be non stick!

So—I know that many PF members absolutely love their mild carbon steel pans.  I'm beginning to give them more and more thought and may buy one just to see how it compares to my collection.

Does anyone have the ones that are high on my list; Solidteknics, Christ Centered, Blu Skillet or Blanc Creatives?  Offer up your opinions.

Or tell us about another manufacturer that you prefer.

Like knives and coolers, I don't spend a lot of money on frying pans.

This thread reminded me that I bought a carbon steel skillet a while back. I never used it. I should look for it and give it a try.

I forget who recommended this one to me. I bought the 11 7/8" one.

A popular pan, especially for omelets, and the sides, which being more sloped than many, are perfect for flipping or getting a spatula under something.  They've been coming new with a coating of something like wax to prevent rust.  It requires a hot water soap wash to get it off before heating it for the first time.

A couple of reports say that the Matfer's large flat area bulges downward when it heats up, causing it to rock or spin on glass top ranges.  Some users have pounded the Botton in when it's cold.  Then it flattens when heated and expanded.

I remember seeing a video someone did about the use of induction burners causing warpage. If I remember is was about the temp cure when heating it up compared to gas or electric.

I bought mine maybe 3 years ago. I am not sure where it is at, never used it as the GF said where are you going to put it you have to many pans and skillets now.

I bought an 8 and 10" Misen nonstick set a while back when they had the first offer on them. I have used the 8" a lot. I like it.
