Getting the itch to buy another Pit
« on: February 27, 2021, 05:35:17 PM »

Spring is here & so is the itch for another pit. My 2013 Gmg Davy Crockett has continues to serve me well. It has yet to fail, Even after 2 fires. it keeps on cooking and its my go to pit since most of the time I cook for 2 people. I will probably keep it full time out at our camper. Looking to replace my Louisiana 800 elite. Its a GR8 pit even though I've replaced a couple things. Its just to big for what I need & is a pellet hog in our Wisconsin winters.

Been a pellet fan since 2008 when I bought a Traeger 070 then on to a couple GMG's & now a Louisiana.
What I'm looking for in my next pit is something size wise around the LG700 That has the sear station like the Louisiana/Pitboss & has a easy ash cleanout like on the Camp chef. One that doesn't break the bank. Been looking & haven't seen anything. Is there such a pit?

Just found the Smoke Pro SG 24. Right up the ally I'm looking for. Wasn't aware of this pit. Thank you Bentley!

I am also looking at a new smoker when I get my next home.  I like the look of the Woodwind and it won't break the bank.  But it does not have a rotisserie.  What is the difference between the sear box and sidekick?

They are both propane fueled attachments.  Sear box is like a giant george foreman searing station while the sidekick is a griddle that can have attachments placed on it (i.e. pizza oven, etc).

That sure is a smart accessory isn't it. I could see myself with one down the line. Would be nice to have an outdoor griddle here @ home as I leave my 28" Blackstone out at my camper. As much as my wife enjoys the smell of bacon.....Just as long as its not in her house.

Right now I'm focused on getting the right size pit for my home & hopefully could be my last pit, (Yea Right!) One that has an easy ash cleanout & isn't a pellet hog. This way I can leave my DC out at the camper.
I see Camp Chef even has an insulated blanket for the PG 24. The pellet cleanout is a plus, Even though I stick to just a couple flavors, Plus the WIFI, never had a pit with this feature. I'm thinking it won't be long before the Woodwind PG 24 is on my patio. Wound be nice to see one in person before I buy. Don't know if anyone around here carry's them.

I had a WoodWind WiFi 24. Bentley’s review was one of the reasons too. It was a nice little grill. They aren’t the most efficient on pellets though as they leak quite a bit around the lid, though they’re not total hogs either, my SmokeFire used a lot more fuel. I’d probably still have the Woodwind had the SmokeFire not lured me away. The ash dump is handy, their WiFi and app always worked well for me. Never had a problem with it, just had the desire to sear better over pellets.
