Butt or Picnic?
« on: June 13, 2021, 08:03:40 PM »

Which do you prefer?

I prefer the Boston butt cut for pulled pork, and would probably never buy a picnic again regardless of how much less it may cost that the butt.

I'm not a big fan of all of the fat on the exterior and I think the meat has a different flavor than the butt does.

I have no preference, and find little difference in finished product be it cooked, or used for sausage.  Picnic has unwanted skin for many, that might be a drawback, for me it just equals cracklins!

But is just easier to deal with and easier to find. Used to see shoulders all the time but no so much anymore.

I also strongly prefer the butt over the picnic.  I'm not a fan of the skin.

My wife has brought home several picnics recently because of the price.  They do cook nicely and the multiple meals we get from one of them are good.
