"Down In Bermuda"
« on: July 24, 2021, 12:16:11 PM »

Going to visit this tiny country next week. Will get on a Viking ship and sail around it with two stops. Only about 20 miles long and a mile at the widest, it sits on the rim of an old volcanic caldera. Main purpose is to enjoy the new ship and ride, and see a couple of the few interesting sites. Temp 79-81 around the clock. Pink sand beaches, and large underground caves.  Viking well known for educational excursions and super food service.  Of course we cross the triangle to get there!  Any suggestions?

Wear your shorts, like the Bermuda Olympic team during the opening ceremonies.

I thought it was 3 miles wide by21 miles long.
May be wrong as that was many years ago that I saw that when I was trying to get a job at the Bank of Bermuda.

My folks honeymooned there in the mid 50's.  I remember my mom speaking of the pink sand beaches.  Sorry, all I got for you!

Been awhile since we have been there however it is easy to get around the island on the buses and boats.  I do believe you can buy and all day combination ticket that lets you hop on and off either of them.  Also they do have a underground cave,  But the most enjoyable place gif it is still there is a bar that serves a great rum punch I think the name is Swizzle In and Swagger Out.

It is a beautiful island and enjoy

I think the 20 miles estimate includes when you double back from the west end to go to King's Wharf. Anyhow it is small.. Hard to get lost there.  I can see why they are so protective re CV.

For those interested in comfort, look up Viking.com and take a look at the new ocean ships.  Believe they are all the same.  Lots of food choices, but sadly I see no BBQ offers.
As for Rum Swizzles, they are offered on several of the tours. I like the flavor, of rum but get a headache from it. I even get the headache looking at it. Fortunately that does not happen with the rest of the drinks offered!

Even if you don’t like rum drinks, you should stop into the Swizzle Inn. There used to be one in Baileys Cove (the original) and one in the dockyards. We always go to the Baileys Cove. Not fancy at all. If you like fish, they have a great fish sandwich. Used to be made from Grouper, now I think it is Whahoo. Still a great sammie. Enjoy Bermuda, a great island.

Didn't say I did not like rum drinks.. They don't like me. Will probably fall prey to a "swizzle" while on the island. I think they are served on one or more of the tours. Will look up Bailey's.  However, so much great food choices aboard ship will probably keep me from enjoying the local cuisine. Might share a fish sammy with my wife tho!!
Found the Swizzle Inn.

Back from a flawless trip and cruise in Bermuda. 9 tests for Covid (one 3 days before and then daily after arrival).  Not gonna show tour picks etc. Just some food picks. Best treatment in over 14 cruises, best food by far. Only 400 customers out of room for 934. Temp 78-82* the whole time. Never had better food than anywhere on this ship. The following are just samples of the food and presentation. Treated like royalty and everyone (just about) remembered our names after the first meeting.  Impressive.

Eggs Benedict

King Crab: I said "a lot" and that's what I got. Heated and drawn butter (not cocktail shown)

Hamburger on pool deck. Great cheese wrapped patty.

Beef Wellington

Salmon and potato with Safron sauce

small lobster and scallops on oriental noodle.

Pork Bellie with roasted coffee rub.

.
Braised short rib beef with onion and also sweet potato puree

Sushie and sashimi bar.  We go for the sushi.
