Anyone Cooking for 4th of July?
« on: June 29, 2022, 09:41:58 AM »

I am normally not big on bbq anymore, but saw some pork ribs on sale (at least a good price for today's prices!) and it suddenly sounded good for the 4th.  I think maybe a traditional summer bbq -- pork ribs, potato salad, cole slaw and rhubarb crisp for dessert.  Anyone else cooking on the 4th?

Not fo cooking for the Fourth however will be cooking a major dinner to celebrate our neighbor’s 90 th birthday.  Thinking of cedar plank salmon, with grilled asparagus and baked potatoes. Not sure of the appetizer other than it will be scallops served over chilled watermelon and bed of greens.  For desert two pies from the or early history. Johnny Appleseed Graversite apple pie and Mrs Goodfellow’s Lemon Meringue pie.  Mrs good fellow is credited with the invention of the lemon meringue pie.

Had a couple of butts planned for Saturday, but increasing chances of rain caused us to postpone for a week.

I have a couple racks and Tractor supply had Bear mountain on sale for a great price. Figure it’s a great way to try them out as a possible new fuel.

Will depend on how much progress we have made packing by then.
Sold our house same day we listed it, and got a contract on another 2 days later.
Busy, busy, busy...

One picnic at someone's house Saturday and two graduation party's for children of friends on Sunday.  May cook some fillet mignon for my wife on Monday if I have any energy left.

Don't remember the last time I cooked on my pellet grill(s).  Still need to clean them up, vacuum out some pellets in the hopper that got wet, etc.  Out of the 5 I have, I am considering keeping 2-3 of them.  The others may go to the curb for someone to take.

I will be smoking a brisket with ears of corn and shotgun shells on Saturday the 3rd.  My niece will bring over some jalapeno poppers for me to cook. My wife will be cooking baked beans also.

I made 6 pints of rhubard syrup a couple of weeks ago. Pancakes, waffles, french toast, ice cream. Create your own rhubarb mule also. I'm kind of a rhurbarb junkie.  10 lbs of rhubarb yielded 6 pints.  Awesome!!

If you set the Blazin out, leave me know. It's only a 4 hour drive. But then Gilligan was only out for a 3 our tour and look how that ended.

If I had known about BGW back when I would have never went down the RECTEC road to wasteful spending. It is gone now, I have the GMG DC and the Pit boss CH7 I am not sure I would want to get rid of either. Although I have not used the CH7 in over a year I bet.
