I'd pay $5 for an 84° day right now...It is 38°, gray, overcast, drizzle and the ground is so saturated, it is simply miserable!

I'd pay $5 for a 48° day here! I feel like the temp here has been below zero more this winter than all the times in the rest of my life combined. I know that probably isn't true, but it's been much more miserable than any year I can remember.

We have only been in the area for 6 Winters, but many folks around here, including my uncles who have been here sine 1952, say it is the wettest they have ever seen.  It is to be 15°, 18°, and 16° for the lows the next 3 nights...for us, that is pure winter temperatures, not 1st week of March temps.  I am done with winter this year, but even more then that, it is the wetness that is driving me up a wall!

Using pork loin meat for 'pulled pork'?
« Reply #32 on: March 05, 2019, 05:15:43 PM »

I managed to cook two pork loins two days ago between storms: one to 155 and sliced, and the other to 205 and turned into pulled pork for sandwiches.

I've never had success using pork loin for 'pulled pork' so I'm wondering how it came out? Cooking pork loin meat to 205 degrees seems like it would be dry since loin meat is so lean.  Did it shred like pork butt?

The pork loin was fine for pulled pork. It was not as good as the pork butt I cooked last week, but considering the deal we got, it made some decent sandwiches.

It is very apparent that the pork loin is much leaning than the pork butt. So call them reduced fat pulled pork sandwiches.

It snowed 4 more inches here a couple of days ago.  There's a 18-inch snow depth on my patio deck and the rain is heavy this morning.  It's forecasted to freeze later today.

EDIT:  patio deck

We got about an inch yesterday.  It is almost gone, but it is gray and nasty.  We hope that is it for the year, and if the forecasts are correct, that is the last day under 40° for 2 weeks!  Supposed to be 70° and overcast tomorrow!  I dont get it!

Same story here in Ontario, near the North shore of lake Erie... This Winter saw me cooking less outside than any of the previous 40 years, and it isn't age related.

I guess when you work from home winter's don't seem as bad as they used to when I had to drive 55 miles each way to work.

We are entering a period of no rain for awhile so I just started a pork butt. The upside of all the rain is that it has triggered a super bloom here in Southern California.

I will try to post some pictures. My last attempt did not work. I am not sure if you need a certain number of posts before you can attach pictures.

You are coming to Southern California at the right time. The weather is perfect. The golden poppies are blooming. The 10 day forecast is for clear and pleasant. It is about time.

The cold rainy weather helped with my desert hiking I have been doing the past five weeks. Last Saturday was the culmination: 23 miles, 8,300 feet of elevation gain, 15 hours and 50 minutes.

I burned so many calories that I cannot seem to eat enough to replenish them.
