Papa Murphy's
« on: February 09, 2018, 02:20:00 PM »

Has anyone cooked a Papa Murphy's on a pellet grill?  Do I need to put the paper tray on something or just directly on the grate?

I see they offer instructions specific to pellet grills now:

Wood Pellet Grill
Cook Time: Approximately 20–30 minutes
1. Preheat grill to 425°–450°F (220°C–235°C). Start on SMOKE, allowing
pellets to ignite. Switch to HIGH and heat for at least 15 minutes.
2. Remove plastic wrap. Put pizza and tray on heat-shielding surface. Place in the center of the grill surface and close lid.
3. Bake for approximately 20-30 minutes. Do not leave grill unattended. Check pizza frequently by lifting crust with a spatula. Turn pizza 1/4 turn every 5 minutes... turn it, don’t burn it! Baking times may vary.
4. Use oven mitts to remove pizza and tray from grill. Let stand 5 minutes. Remove pizza and tray from heat-shielding surface. Cut and serve.

I do them all the time on my GMG DB.  I use a pizza stone.  It usually takes about 20 to 30 minutes depending on what type of pizza I get.  I do the Papa's All Meat most of the time and usually with the pan crust.  I have even bought several at a time and freeze the one's I don't smoke right away.  I usually freeze the standard pizza crust one's instead of the pan one's.  I do it very close to the menu Papa Murphy has posted.

I did one in our regular oven one time and it was not near as good as being done on the smoker.

I am with ReubenRay, lots of them but also only use the stone. About 3 or 4 years ago they would give you a foil pan to cook them on. Never used them but I betcha I have 20-30 of them. The "Cowboy" on a pellet grill is hard to beat, just watch them.

I used too, but once again they have raised their prices and are promoting the new sale price like it is a sure deal.  Honestly they are to the point they are 2x the cost of all the other pizza chains, 3x the cheap ones.  Just no way I am paying $30+ for two large pies I have to cook myself, $24 if you get a 2 topping on sale on Tues.

Pretty bummed about it actually as I used to like cooking their pies hot n fast on my pellet grill.

Not sure where you are but they throw codes at us all the time, in fact if we go a month or so they get cheaper every 2 days or so. Email reads......"Let's try this again".
Right now in Manhattan KS, I can get 4 large pizzas any combination for $20.00-plus the taxes etc, 8.75% here anyway.

I never was a huge fan of papa Murphy, but I did get them from time to time. They all went out of business around here a couple years ago. I do miss them every so often.

We had a noble Romans take and bake that was pretty decent. They closed too.

I used to buy the $8 pies at Sam's and then put my own stuff on them.

The Papa Murphy’s website has coupons. I think Costco also has a take and bake option.

I did them on both the Daniel Boone at 500° and the Memphis Pro at 650°.  I was a paper try guy for 5 minutes on both to set the bottom of the dough and then put directly on the grates for last 7-10 on Memphis and about 15 more on the DB.

Has anyone cooked a Papa Murphy's on a pellet grill?  Do I need to put the paper tray on something or just directly on the grate?

I agree, They've priced themselves out of my market. Which is sad because there's one real close to my house. I do love the Cowboy also! We've been getting them fron Sam's club lately. Once you've cooked a pizza on the pellet grill, you don't go back to the house oven!

I flip them over, remove the paper tray, and cook them fast in our GMG pizza oven on the Daniel Boone.  Much better than cooking them at 425 degrees!
