Spritzing Pork Ribs?
« on: May 01, 2019, 10:13:58 AM »

I have my ribs on and I forgot my apple juice.  I am middle of a campground in the country so running to a store is not an option.  What else can I use?  I have beer, strawberry/banana V8, Barqs creme soda, dark rum, vodka, gin and wine.

I used to spritz and when I quit doing it I saw no difference other than my cooks got done faster without the spritz and opening the lid frequently.

I wanted an excuse to have a beer anyway so I did the beer and water.

When I was out of apple juice, I used a concoction of pork broth, brown sugar and apple cider vinegar to spritz.  ::)

I used to use apple juice or cider, Worcestershire, and some hot sauce.

I stopped spritzing about the same time I quit foiling and using mustard as a rub binder.

None of it made any difference in my opinion. YMMV...

I agree about all 3.

On a separate subject, I made some chuck roasts for pulled beef the other day.  I didn't even put a rub on them.  Didn't taste any different than when I used rubs on them.  So, no more rubs on chuck roasts for pulled beef going forward.  I will save time and money.

They turned out great.  I was surprised to find decent ribs at a local Walmart.  They were over 4 pounds at $2.52 a pound.  I normally would eat three ribs, but I only ate two being they were so big.

I do not spritz too much any more but when I do I use  50-50 water and apple cider vinegar.  I use to use apple juice but got tired of trying to keep the sprayer from clogging up.

I have not found it necessary to spritz my ribs.  Because I will use a moisturizer before I add my rub and I also wrap with honey, brown sugar and a liquid after two. Hours I just don’t think it needed

Speaking of ribs, in preparation for my yearly three month trek to the Pacific NW, I've got 8 racks of baby backs thawing for smoking/cooking on Friday. I'm leaving Valley Of The Sun and going to the land of Never Ending Rain in two weeks and will bring along with me a large ice chest filed with frozen smoked meats. I make the trip in two days and 40 lbs. of dry ice keeps things still hard frozen for the boat freezer.  :pig:
