I would not care what charitable organization got it as long as:  (1) they were local, or (2) they would come pick up.

I don't know about Bent, but I am not all that interested in trying to sell anything.  I don't like having to put info and pictures out there, field email or calls and really don't like the thought of complete strangers coming to my house to look at it.

I am happy to do a raffle and, if someone wins say "Come get it or send someone to pack it and ship it", but I can't see too many participating with those rules.

First let me say I enjoy the sight very much and would be willing to make a donation to assist in keeping it running.  Also I would buy one or two tickets even knowing I would have a small chance of winning.  If I did win I am close enough to pick it up and if I did not want it i would ask that it be donated to local organization ie VFW, American legion, fire dept etc.

I said I would be willing to purchase 2 tickets for testing, with the pit going to charity after the test period.  I just like learning about the pros and cons of new things from someone I trust.  In regards to this site, I am more than willing to pay a membership fee to help keep the great information and life sharings we all get being part of PF.

I would be more than willing to purchase tickets to fund a pellet cooker test. Bentley’s tests on the old site are what convinced me to purchase my Daniel Boone. As for helping to support the future of pelletfan - that’s a no-brainer for me. Too much valuable knowledge on here to lose it all (again).

I would be happy to donate to both the upkeep of this site and the testing of any pits you want to test.
The knowledge shared by the members here is valuable. The old site helped me greatly when I was in the market to replace my starter pit with my current PG500.
Having a resource like that available the next wave of owners would be great.
There is a tremendous amount of help available here and I would be happy to help keep it available.

I have a suggestion to consider:  Why not raffle the pit to ticket holders after the testing with the following conditions.
1. They would have to pick up the prize at their own expense and either keep it, donate it, or sell it in their own locality.
2. Or they could decide to give it to one of your local charities, and then deduct the gift from their taxes (if that is legal).
3. Or they could give it to one of those charities with no tax credit.
That would add a better incentive to participate in the review and might provide a nice pit for one of our members if there is a need.

There are two pages of ideas here.  I'd support any of them because I really want the Performance Tests to continue.

An alternate solution might be to recruit a member who has recently purchased a pit that is of interest to the group and have him/her perform and publish the pit evaluation with Bentley's guidance/assistance.  ::)

Perhaps I am not understnading -- if you raffle it afterwards, who pays for it to start and what happens if there aren't enough raffle tickets sold to cover the initial payment for the pit?

I like the idea. It would be kind of fun to pick out a charitable organization in an other area to donate to if I happened to win. I think the motivation for buying tickets is more about following the evaluation process and seeing the results rather than walking away with a prize. However, a drawing would still add an element of anticipation and suspense. Who knows, depending on the prize it just might be worth a road trip!

The way I read it tickets would still be sold ahead of time as in the past to pay for the pit, but the drawing itself could be done after testing was completed.

You still have to have tickets in order to participate in the raffle. Ticket sales would have to cover the purchase. The unit would only be bought after enough ticket sales were made. After purchase, the the testing would be completed first, then all the ticket purchasers names would go into a drawing. If you bought 3 tickets, then you would have 3 tickets in the drawing pot. Lot of work.

I think hat is kind of the way it was done before, you were on a list 3 tickets got you one the list 3 times then they either drew a number or used a random generator for the winner.

Looks like there is enough people interested in donating to the site to keep it running annually.  I think if you put a donation tab on here somehow you can easily get the $200 with $5-$10 a person.  If you ever get to the point where you have enough money left over to buy a new pit to test, maybe you have a poll asking the members to decide if they would like for you to use the additional donated funds to buy the pit and then donate or to roll them over into the next few years of site funding.
