Friends, I know this is a stange request, but a blind handler in Alabama has lost their dog. Please help us find guide dog Cutlas who is missing in Anniston, Alabama. Cutlas is an 8-year-old yellow Labrador retriever. GEB is offering a $1000 reward for his return. Please call Guiding Eyes for the Blind at 1-800-942-0149 with any information.

If any of you have friends or family in this area of Alabama, please share this information with them.  I know Cutlas is missed and needs to be found.  Thanks so much.

I assume that guide dogs have identifying collars and are "chipped."

Yes, both of those.  One would hope that if someone found him, they would not keep him.  But these are very nice, well behaved dogs.  I think that is why the $1000 reward is offered, to encourage good behavior.

Anniston, Alabama is a relatively small town, have they tried posting flyers around town with the pertinent information?

I gather they have done that and blanketed social media, vets, animal rescue, etc. in the area. Some have suggested that they contact an "animal finder" but not a whole lot of details have been shared.  I will let folks know anything I hear.  I just hope he is safe and not injured or wandering in an area with no people.

Not much of an update, but this was posted one hour ago.  Posting in the slim hope that one of you may know someone in that area and can share:

UPDATE: Cutlas is still missing. Thank you to everyone who messaged & called with a tip. We have a few promising leads that we are working on. Cutlas escaped from a house on Blue Ridge Drive, and his AVID microchip number is 068819377. We are still offering a $1000 reward for his safe return. For personal reasons, the handler and family are not able to help search for the dog. Please continue to call in tips to 1-800-942-0149.

**Please note: the yellow lab hanging around with a red dog friend by Ollies in Anniston is not Cutlas - this dog is too young and has black on his tongue. Cutlas has no marks on his tongue.

If you think you see Cutlas, he will respond to “Cutlas, come” and will likely approach you if you have a treat. If he seems hesitant in walking over, try dropping to one knee before calling out again.

Darn, I sure hope they find him.
Can't imagine how sad and worried the family must be.
Praying for a positive ending.

UPDATE (1/18) from GEB:

CUTLAS HAS BEEN FOUND!
He will now return home to the Guiding Eyes family. Thank you to everyone who helped us in the search, including the lovely people in the Anniston area who checked out the tips and searched tirelessly for this special boy.

Thank you to all pf's who prayed and sent good thoughts and maybe even contacted folks you knew in the region..  His person has his guiding eyes back and that is priceless.
