Depending on how they are cooked and how I feel, I enjoy both of them.  The arsenic in rice isn't a concern for me in case that comes up.

I probably like potatoes more than rice, but I love pilaf and fried rice -- you know, all the bad types of rice! :pig:

I like both and it depends on the type of meat to pair them with.  Kristin, perhaps a poll?

Hands down RICE, part of my youth we lived across the street from a large rice field. In SW Cajun Louisiana where we lived, potatoes were much more costly than rice.

It would depend on the main for me.  I like them both.  Potato salad, mashed potatoes w/garlic, hash browns, French fries, scalloped...Dirty Rice, Pilaf, cheesy rice, Red beans and rice...

I can’t believe anyone would seriously ask that question. Potatoes of course. I might have some bias due to the State I live in where license plates say “Famous Potatoes” on them.

Depending on the main, I love them both. My favorite rice has to be basmati.  Since my wife went to a very low carb diet a few years ago the amount I eat is reduced now.

A toss-up for me, too.  But as far as rice goes, Marcia blends it with other grains or wild rice and I like it even more.  It may just be the color or texture that she improves.

BTW, wild rice isn't a rice, it's a grass and most of it is no longer harvested wild.  As I recall, the native Americans are the only people allowed to harvest wild-grown rice, so several commercial farms now grow it.  The commercial farms can produce a more consistent product and can meet the demand.

I also grew up in south Louisiana and rice was served for nearly every meal.  Rice and gravy was a must!  Now I also eat it with Indian, Chinese and Thai food.  Potatoes was the second most favorite starch back then, either boiled with Zatarain's or mashed.   :lick:

Love both. I will lean to rice because I can make rice the main meal easier than I can potatoes. It's sooooo close though.

I will say that certain potato preparations I would prefer over any preperation of rice.

Rice here, we buy it in 25 or sometimes 50# bags, and use our rice cooker 2-3 times a week minimum.     Usually Jasmine rice.

BTW, I like Darwin, ate rice almost every day but never ate just plain white rice, always seasoned with gravy, beans, stew, etc..
