Whats cooking for Labor Day
« on: September 04, 2020, 12:00:03 PM »

I thought it was great that this year the Federal Government gave me Labor Day for my Birthday present. So I will cook one of my favorite meals for my family and friends. It will be grilled shrimp, Maryland Crabcakes with Steak Fries and a Black Forest Cake for Dessert.

Nothing special here. We're just idling along..Our local farmers/outdoor market has had some special meals that we (just the two of old folks) have taken a liking to. Small pot pies, slow roasted pork roast with

an excellent, most fresh salad. I am not a salad person however this one is more than acceptable in my books.

Just not cooking as much as we used to due to the hot humid air, simply eating less and the availably of the fore-mentioned meals.

I have a chuck roast on the pit as we speak for some pulled beef sammies in a few hours, thinking brats and sausage tomorrow, lamb chops with Costco Sweet Kale Salad on Sunday and a couple of nice rib eyes for the holiday.  Have not thought much on the sides other than the Kale salad.

Just thru 6 half pound boneless pork chops into Lawry's Caribbean Jerk marinade.  Will probably make them tomorrow or Sunday.

So far today, I finished cooking 6 half pound boneless pork chops that were marinated in Lawry's Caribbean Jerk, 6 quarter pound hamburgers, a couple pound pork loin from Sam's (https://www.samsclub.com/p/pork-loin-filet-member-s-mark/prod21263026), and I have 3 racks of baby backs that should be done in the next hour.

I have two pork butts to cook. This is revisiting the first time I cooked two as documented in this post. I had heard that two would take the same time as one.

That was clearly not the case.

https://pelletfan.com/index.php?topic=3909.0

It ended up taking 14:35 for the first to finish and 18:30 for the second.

I am planning on starting real early this time and letting them cook while I sleep.

Nothing special. Will cook some ribs for the neighbor and hand them over the wall. Sort of a tradition now.
